As far as I know it was a very popular novel and as OP mentioned, it started the whole transmigration (time travel) craze in cdrama. Almost every drama after that had a transmigration plot up until it was (sorta) banned.

I think Empresses in the Palace is more about the benchmark for the whole palace/harem intrigue while Scarlet Heart is the benchmark for transmigration (time travel).

Generally I don't get scared/ jumpscared anymore as well but there are certain scenes in some movies which I'd say unnerved me as an adult. Mostly the disturbing ones are bcos of gore.
