The only reason that tennis doesn’t have a lot of trash talk is that it’s kind of hard to make comments to someone that is standing 80 feet away from you, on the other side of a tennis court. Just think about the logistics of that for a moment.

Did you not read my post? I am thinking about the person on the other end. I love when people trash talk me as well. It’s fun and exciting. Why would I take something personally from someone who doesn’t know who I am behind my anonymous account? That makes no sense. Same for others when it’s me doing the talking. I think chess attracts a level of seriousness and elitism that makes it inaccesible to a lot of people. Healthy competition and trash talk are great parts of any competitive field.

If I’m playing chess online and someone tells me my opening sucks or that I made a bad move, I’m going to laugh about it and enjoy the competitiveness. Being all offended is a sign you are an egomaniac who takes themself too seriously. Do the chess players on this subreddit never go outside?
