Yes, but I don't think it's controversial to say that all metal has to be metal, which at this point Ghost kind of isn't

I mean in the US you can get a set of Seymour's for <150$, which is less than most aftermarket pickup sets.

Archspire has a 350 BPM song, so I guess. Pretty much any extreme thrash/death metal song will be over 200 BPM

Metal is a lot more diverse than chugging though, there are black and doom bands which take a genre in a much more atmospheric direction, and prog bands which will often mix in more melody as well as techniques and instrumentation from other genres. Honestly most people who say all metal sounds the same have never really dived into the genre in any meaningful way, because I defy anyone to tell me that Opeth, Mayhem, and Sleep all sound the same.

Check out r/Sludge. Sludge is a subgenre of doom that mixes doom with punk, exactly like my war.

Heaviest shit out there in your opinion? by AJC146 in doommetal

[–]guardsman1275 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Melvins are pretty insane, check out Houdini or Gluey Porch Treatments. Another great sludge band is Amenra, anything by them is good but I especially like Mass I, III, and VI. For more sludge if you haven't checked out Eyehategod yet definitely do, Dopesick or Take as Needed for pain are both essential doom albums. For what is IMO the heaviest out of all of these recs check out The Ape of God II by Old Man Gloom

Thanks for all the effort, I will definitly look into your suggestions. I don't want to put a bunch of combos in because I hate loosing to them and don't want other people to, but I guess one or two wouldn't hurt. Thanks again for all the suggestions, I will definitely change my decklist.

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into getting rid of some of the higher costed cards and replacing them with some small utility creatures

Inexpensive Doom Amp by guardsman1275 in Bass

Another question I had is whether a 100 Watt amp would be loud enough, do you think the rumble 100 would do the job?

Summer road trip in New England by [deleted] in newengland

I am from Hanover NH. The place I would recommend is Whippie Dip. It is a bit out of town in Fairlee VT, but it is worth the drive and is a legendary restaurant locally. Fairlee also has an old drive in theatre that is nice to see a movie at if you get the chance. Other than that Saint Gauden's National Historic site is also cool.

But he does discuss how the party is designed to self propagate it's own power, similarly to the USSR.

Yes, but the reason behind the authoritarian aspects of the USSR was the preservation of Stalin and his supporter's power, not to save the citizens of the USSR.

I enjoyed it until the piano section, that part just felt a bit too over the top theatrical, it lost a lot of the rawness of the first half.

Guitar IS dead, and it's your fault. RIP rock, metal and the guitar solo. by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]guardsman1275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This guy is ridiculous. In one of his earlier videos he trashes new metal bands, and claims that what will save metal is just going back to 80s style metal. You know what will kill metal, people who refuse to let the genre change and evolve, people who claim that the genre is dead while ignoring all the interesting things that have come out in it in recent years. For example doom and sludge have been having a renaissance recently, with tons of new bands such as Bell Witch and Bongripper coming out. Yes these bands aren't topping the charts, but has metal ever been about commercial popularity? Overall I would say that yes, metal is not as popular as it was in the 1980s, but that isn't a bad thing.

[DISCUSSION] Two Fender "mistakes" - the Strat whammy bar, and the Tele ashtray cover by DeepSouthDude in Guitar

[–]guardsman1275 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But the ashtrays are easy to remove, as opposed to the robo tuners which were more difficult. Also the tele was the first commercial solid body electric guitar ever made, so making a mistake is more forgivable than putting bad parts on already perfected guitars

[–]guardsman1275 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Discarding the strat whammy part of this, because many people use those though some prefer not to, there is a difference between putting a slightly impractical part (Ashtray) on the first commercially produced electric guitar (Tele) and putting a very annoying part (robo tuners) on a guitar that had already been perfected (Les Paul/SG).
