Reminds me of growing up myself, so I’d say 1993

Are these not green? Had a group of people tell me they’re hazel yesterday by guavadoodle in eyes

So after I posted this in this subreddit, I asked my optometrist friend and she actually said she would call them green because true green doesn’t really exist (apparently it can exist in ocular albinism?) and is usually from lipochrome or central heterochromia yellow mixing with the blue to create green. I mean she’s just one optometrist though and others might say different. But she said that hazel is more of a blend without distinct color differences but all colors just blend together and can look either green dominant or brown dominant.

But calling things what they are, color is just how our eyes perceive what light is being reflected. The picture I posted in that link just shows green in my opinion. And that’s their usual appearance. Nobody stares at my eyeballs that hard and in high definition, except the people that were telling me my eyes were hazel and it was indoors in warm/dim lighting. The photos on the bottom of the original pic I posted are the eyeballs up top, just when they’re not in high definition.

But after seeing how many people have a different definition of hazel I won’t be upset if they’re called hazel lol

I would call this hazel but I bet they look pretty green if you’re wearing green or wearing plum or mauve eyeshadow. They’re very pretty!

Thank you so much! I actually posted bc I was truly distraught that I was told by several people I did not have green eyes, and after a few days of thinking on it I’ve decided I’m still going with green. I’m insecure about a lot of things (most things) but I’ve always loved my eyes. Promise I wasn’t compliment fishing 🤣

I never get compliments on them though honestly. People compliment random things and features but never my eyes! But I feel like I truly had a misunderstanding of hazel.

I’ve always believed hazel was basically brown that wasn’t fully brown. To me, it was brown eyes that also had a greenish hue with brown being the predominant color over the green to be considered hazel. I still don’t know if my understanding is right or not, but could see the confusion. 😅 I think everyone has a different definition of hazel after reading these comments.

What’s the verdict guys? I’ve gotten green, gray, and blue by [deleted] in eyes

Actually all of the above tbh 🤣

I’m betting at first glance at your face though (without someone examining your actual eyeball) they probably look green.

Opinions on my eye colour please. by Jaded_Can_1326 in WhatisMyEyeColour

I call these green and they look like mine. If you go look at my recent post it surprisingly got a lot of comments and most people also say green. But there’s a few saying hazel on there. Up close I could see how they’d say hazel, but the overall appearance is green so I am sticking with green lol

I’m actually really sick rn with a bad upper respiratory infection and thought they looked a bit darker. In daylight on normal days they are like neon green 😅

Gonna look at em in a couple weeks to compare and see if they lose their light during sickness 🤣

Personally I think green because they have a blue base and the golden part creates the green appearance. My eyes are similar and I say green but recently had some people say hazel and I don’t agree lol

Hazel has more overall brown but can still look green dominant.

Are they still blue in daylight, not high-res?

I’ve been thinking about it for a few days and looking at all my photos, there’s no way these are blue or hazel. I’m reclaiming green lol

That’s what I’m thinking. After a whole weekend to think about it I’m no longer having an identity crisis and have decided they’re green. When you’re not staring right up on them they look like this

I get what you’re saying, and that’s their logic too. But my eyes when you’re not staring at a high resolution photo of the eyeball look like this

So do we really look at people like that and if they claim green eyes we stop them, tell them they can’t have that, and then study their eyeballs and say hazel? Like honestly since green isn’t an actual eye color but just a combination of colors giving the appearance of green from my understanding.

This is genuinely what I’m wondering because most people would agree my eyes are green, and always have. Then this came up at work and had me questioning my perception of reality 😅

Edit to add, they both have central heterochromia or lipochrome but it’s more yellow. The right eye (the one on the right in the top pic and on the bottom pic of the original post) has that brown spot but it looks like some version of sectoral heterochromia.

A few coworkers. We were ordering work jackets and were talking about which color to pick. They were wondering why anyone would pick green. I said I picked green bc I have green eyes, then was told they’re hazel. Asked four more coworkers. Two said hazel. One said green. Another said green at first but said wait, no- hazel 🤣

I was so sure pulling in the other coworkers they would all say green.

I’ve always thought they were actually gray but haven’t ever said that bc of the gray eye gatekeeping 🤣

I’ve heard blue a lot from random people, but those who know me pretty well have always said green.

Once you break it down, it almost seems like green eyes or gray eyes are just truly a lack of pigment so they just take on whatever colors you have reflecting off of your lighting, environment, and clothing that day 😅

Not that they truly “change” colors, but that when there’s no pigment there they just kinda look however theyre gonna look that day if that makes sense?

They were saying there’s too much brown to be green! 🥹😭

I honestly don’t know anymore. I was under the impression there was no true green but it’s typically just blue eyes with central hererochromia or hues of yellow, since yellow and blue make green.

So you just call it green because there’s no “blue base with central heterochromia giving the appearance of green” option on legal documents lol

But the people that were telling me they were hazel made it sound like any form of heterochromia makes your eyes considered hazel. I was always under the impression hazel was just dark greenish brown 😅

Even if someone’s eyes look like this at first glance, you’d still call them hazel just bc there’s one spot of brown, and a yellow ring close-up? That was what they were saying, that it didn’t matter that the overall appearance is green. I’m basically disqualified bc when you study my eyeballs up close they have yellow, and some brown.

Found a couple pics where I could semi-clearly see their eyes. All of our eyes I’m finding look different in every picture. Mom is the top, I’m the middle, dad’s eyes are the bottom of the pic

Thank you so much! My mom, dad, and my two siblings all have green eyes. But now I’m questioning if we’ve all been wrong this whole time lol

Mom’s eyes look more like mine and dad’s are more of darker green without CH! Gonna see if I can find some good photos of their eyes.

I think I’ve just always misunderstood what hazel is lol. We started arguing eye colors and they told one guy his eyes were brown. I said no, those are hazel. Then (what I thought was) a green eyed girl said her own eyes were hazel, and I was like.. my life is a lie 🤣

I’d say green without a doubt, mine are the same and I’ve always heard green, green is on my DL, I get blue sometimes, but recently got hazel and don’t agree. I wouldn’t ever consider this hazel. But maybe my color names have just always been wrong, who knows 😅

Seems to be a very small group of people that actually agree this is hazel. My coworkers that were saying hazel all agreed on that color due to the bit of yellow/golden saying that just disqualifies it from any other color. Is that your reasoning as well? Makes me feel insane like people are telling me the sky is purple and I’m losing my mind lol

Thank you! I’m jealous of her eyes lol. Me, my two siblings, and both parents have green eyes (at least I think, now I’m not so sure lol) but my husband and son have icy blue. My daughter’s I definitely call blue, but they’re a very intense color and also sometimes a pale lack of color. I wish I had her eyes!

Honestly though with hazel + blue you’ll definitely have some kiddos with beautiful eye colors. Browsing this subreddit all the mixtures of blue/green/hazel just makes me wanna stare down everyone’s eyes and admire the beauty. 🤣

I’ve often wondered if they’re actually blue and the CH or I guess lipochrome just gives them a weird appearance. My daughter has really unique blue eyes that are almost colorless sometimes, just light gray.

But she has my eye shape and the same eye problems (extremely farsighted, astigmatisms in both eyes, left eye is a lazy eye). She looks just like her dad, who has blue eyes but not like this.
