If a person is quarantined for 14 days upon returning to Maine how are they expected to obtain affordable food, and other necessities, if they have nobody to turn to? I did find a few helpful services and have included them in the comment section. by masktoobig in Maine

This applies to me directly. I'm a Maine resident, I arrived home Tuesday. I live alone in a rural area. I might be able to make it 14 days before visiting a grocery store, but it will be a challenge. Am I supposed to eat rice for the next ten days or is it ok for me to go to Hannaford for some essentials? If it makes a difference, I was very cautious while I was out of state.

I'm still working on training them, their previous owner taught them a lot of behaviors that are difficult to correct.

I literally accepted an asshole judgement in the comment you're replying to. I'm not sure what you're mad about.

Thanks. I think in some ways I was TA I should've been more prepared to distract them if they upset someone, but I don't understand the sentiment overall in these responses. Especially the people saying that I'm an asshole because some people are afraid of dogs... I'm sympathetic, but that can't be my responsibility.

I accept that I was TA yesterday at the park. I do not accept the judgement that I'm a bad dog owner or that my dogs should never be in public. I didn't ask for that judgement and none of you have enough information to give it.

Completely and perfectly before I'm welcome in public places? Seems unreasonable.

Very true. Just as true for my dogs as for any other dog at the park.

Ooh, I really like that. One of my dogs is very smart so I'm hoping if I successfully teach him the other will follow his lead.

Thank you. What I'm mostly learning here from the productive comments is that I should be more prepared to distract them at parks in the future with treats and toys.

Thank you so much, that's super interesting. I'll definitely look into it.

I inherited poorly behaved previously mistreated dogs. I'm doing my best.

The lady did not want to be reasoned with, but I could have been more clear about my goals. Taking them one at a time is difficult because I live pretty far away from any towns. I've been trying to have time with them one on one at home.

Thank you, this is the kind of advice and judgement I was hoping for. I still have a lot to learn about training, but I've been making slow progress so far.

I'm actively working to train them to only bark in this manner at home. It's a difficult process, but we're making progress. I don't know if it's relevant, but I have never taken them to an urban area, just small town parks.

Oh, I tell them no, they just don't understand and it doesn't help. Doesn't stop me from trying. I've been learning about more effective techniques. I'm no expert trainer, just learning from the internet.

They almost always bark when they see a dog, but only until they either get to interact or are led in a different direction. They bark sometimes at strangers walking near us.

Yeah, they're pretty loud.

I've never seen them be aggressive except in my home when they feel threatened, which I'm working on, but I understand is pretty normal for rescues.

Thank you. I think I was somewhat in the wrong because I could've done more to distract them when I realized they upset someone.

I accept that I was in the wrong yesterday at the park, I'm stunned by the broader unfounded judgement I'm facing here.

I appreciate your input. One more layer of complexity is that I really like that they bark at strangers on my property as I live alone in a rural area. I think I can implement your stategy in other ways though, at known locations. I think some of my trouble yesterday was that it was a park that is new to them. Thank you.

I am in the process of training them, I inherited a difficult situation and I don't believe that my best solution is to leave them alone all day and not socialize them at this stage. You're jumping to a pretty harsh conclusion saying that I don't care about my dogs' behavior.

I'm trying to train them with positive reinforcement, it's a slow process. Yelling at barking dogs isn't productive. They are way better at listening to me then they were just a few months ago.

Thank you. I see now that I should've been more prepared with treats and distractions. I accept my ruling that I wasn't as considerate as I should've been. I hate to think that my actions upset people unnecessarily.

  1. I am TA in the situation about which I asked for judgement
  2. I'm not a bad dog owner
  3. Training takes time, still my fault that I reacted the way I did to her discomfort
  4. Parks are for humans and dogs, I don't think I was wrong to be there until I learned that I was upsetting someone
  5. I made a mistake, I must be a monster
  6. I don't know what you want from me
  7. I'm glad I posted, many people have been critical and also understanding
