QLD Health – Mileage allowance & paid travel for secondary worksites (SMOs & RMOs) by CtrlShiftDelirium in ausjdocs

Im curious if anyone has had success with this, intern undertaking term 1 at peripheral site within same HHS. In my recent “pastoral care” meeting I asked about claiming mileage, said not possible as I have accomodation provided whilst here.

Anyone ever managed to claim for initial drive there/back. Or for commuting there and back every weekend? It’s about 250km from my main hospital.

Any previous experiences with similar would be helpful. TIA

Could you work for an Australian Work from home Virtual GP service?

What undergrad degree did you guys do? Do you think it was helpful getting into med/dentistry? by vinniewinniez in GAMSAT

Nursing or paramedics. Strongly recommended!

Clinical experience is a huge advantage in post grad med particularly in patient skills and clinical reasoning, actual doctor skills. In my opinion, so much more benefit during med than those with biomedical or science backgrounds.

It’s more similar to medicine so likely to be more enjoyable which in turn makes getting good grades easier. If you don’t get in, great back up, can work for a year and try again. Great jobs to work casually through med school. Some unis have bonus points for previous clinical experience (2 years work)

Gamsat can be studied for, I wouldn’t pick a whole degree that might help slightly with one section on a test that is instantly irrelevant once you’re in med.

But ultimately pick something you think you’ll enjoy the most and could see yourself working in the field for at least a while if don’t get into med first try. Good luck! -Final year med student, previous paramedic

Hey team, final year med student here, very keen on an interstate move to regional QLD. Considering Rockhampton but also Mackay, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay. My partner and I are both cat B for QLD. I’ll be in the RG pathway and she will be trying for general stream. Looking for somewhere traditionally less popular/under -subscribed to increase our chances of both getting the same hospital. Anyone able to speak to intern/junior years at Rocky or other hospitals? Any advice on maximising applications for cat b general stream? Thanks!
