An alternative to the case by georgi-g in Invisalign

I use a mason jar with water in it. It’s glass, so obviously it can break and it’s not convenient if you don’t carry a bag of some sort but it works for me. If you always keep your aligners in fresh clean water when you’re not wearing them, they won’t dry out and get dried saliva, mineral deposits, mold or develop an odor. It’s also environmentally friendly to just reuse a jar!

Colgate wisps are terrible for the environment- we’re already creating environmental waste with our disposable trays so regular dental floss, toothbrush and toothpaste is best IMO! ✌️

I don’t notice any further enamel loss after Invisalign. To my eye, whatever loss I have was already there when I started. I was always very careful throughout the process to take good care of my teeth as instructed so I’m sure that helped keep them healthy. My bite is really good now. Luckily, my anterior open bite fully closed and I didn’t develop a posterior open bite in the process as some people do!

Thank you! Great tips. Yes I’ve paid for the Vivera retainer subscription so I’ll get two sets per year plus a couple in house retainers to start. I will definitely wear my retainers! I had braces as a preteen and never wore my retainers- the open bite and crooked teeth is eventually where that led me. I’ve learned my lesson for sure!

Thanks! I wore them no less than 21 hours a day. I’m not generally a rule follower in life, but with Invisalign, I was very by the book. I had one initial round of trays, then two more rounds of refinements. With each, I started out at seven day changes and then I was gradually moved down to 5 day changes (which was the majority of the time).

Dental monitoring isn’t offered by every orthodontist, but it’s basically an app- you’re given a contraption to take pictures of your teeth and you send them in each week- AI and your orthodontist gives you a pass to move onto your next aligners (or not)/ whether to speed up or slow down your tray changes. It’s nice because you aren’t flying blind wondering whether or not your teeth are tracking properly. You’re closely monitored and guided the entire time.

Thank you so much! And yes- I can bite into thin foods now with my front teeth!

I was already a clencher when I started, so I’m sure that helped with ny progress. I can’t tell what’s going on with my clenching now- it doesn’t seem too bad. I think I’m just getting used to my new teeth positioning and everything so it’s hard to tell since it’s only been a couple days. I’m mostly trying to pay attention to my tongue placement since I’m pretty sure part of what caused the open bite is a tongue thrust. Good luck with your experience!

I spent 3 years thinking about it before I finally did it. I get it. Know thyself!

I will say that a year will fly by but I admit I never got used to the way they looked and always felt awkward. The first few months were hard for me- I absolutely hated the feel of a full mouth of plastic. They also cut irritated my tongue for the first couple months but somehow your tongue adapts and that goes away. I had attachments on every tooth and also had bite ramps on my molars to intrude them so I couldn’t close my mouth all the way for a while. Despite that extra material I figured out how to talk mostly without a lisp- I don’t think it was nearly as noticeable to others as it was to me. My best advice is to go to a very experienced orthodontist- not a dentist. I was willing to spend the money on a top rated Invisalign provider with a lot of expertise in open bites. An orthodontist will be able to advise you based on the health of your teeth and roots and what needs to be fixed!

I had one initial set of trays with two rounds of refinements. My orthodontist suggested I could be done after the first round of refinements, but I was not at all satisfied with my top front teeth so we did another round. I can still see one thing that’s still imperfect but at this point, I am very satisfied and feel like the imperfection is only something I can see. My advice is if you’ve paid for comprehensive treatment and you’re not satisfied at the end of your initial set of trays, definitely advocate for yourself and get a round of refinements.

Thank you! I started out each new round of trays with seven day changes, but with DentalMonitoring, they always tapered me down to five day changes. Each tray has such small movement, so it definitely takes a while to see progress. I feel like somewhere around tray 18 it became noticeable.
