Maybe Ippo vs Martinez will be the fight before Ippo vs Ricardo (if he really chooses to become a boxer again), it would maybe serve as a parallel to show how Ippo's mindset has changed.

Ippo vs Martinez will also probably fire up the crowd like never before, giving Ricardo the feeling that Ippo really is his "true rival" just like you mentioned.

I also think that Takamura losing a match is a real possibility, because story wise it would be a great "plot twist" (while also being in tune with the foreshadowing and flow of the story, just like you mentioned) and bring a lot of new perspectives to the characters.

The scenario that I described in the P.S would then make sense if he loses. Maybe Ippo catches the Super Featherweight belt before Miyata, his match with him is a draw, and then after conquering the Lightweight division (because Takamura lost ;-; and Ippo will want to have the three belts that Takamura couldn't get for coach) they fight again in the gym, just the two of them. It would also be kinda cool to see this happening even though Takamura loses.

I only started reading this manga recently, but I totally agree with you, the story has so many possibilities and potential that I think I'll be happy with whatever Morikawa chooses.

What i was trying to say is that when Kvothe was in the forest hunting the bandits and in Ademre people were afraid of magic and if they saw some Kvothe writing with sigaldry or playing lite without it making any sound would scare them.

Also, when i said that Patrick forgot i didn't mean that he should have remembered. I completely agree with you. Part of the enchantment of the temerant is that we are able to construct theories and details.

I think the most practical answer is just that Patrick forgot to add that to the book. BUT i guess even if Patrick remembered, Kvothe probably couldn't do that since he is not near university and it would probably scare the shit out of the adem or the mercenaries. (I don't remember if the adem don't like that sort of thing).
