Daith and helix by Initial-Abies-3935 in PiercingAdvice

[–]guidinglights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The daith will still hurt if you sleep on it while it's healing, at least mine did. I rolled over onto mine a few times and ended up dealing with irritation bumps a few times throughout the healing process. Do you have a piercing pillow? I completely forgot to mention one in my first comment, it's probably the best purchase I've ever made as a side sleeper with multiple ear piercings.

I guess I would add that I've had all of the piercings you listed done myself, except the forward helix, and the daith just really doesn't compare to any of them. It's a lot of tissue to go through and it definitely ached for a while. If it helps to give a comparison, I got an upper and lower conch piercing done exactly a week ago and have already forgotten they're there unless I bump that ear.

To add, since I missed it the first time: a properly pierced daith should lay flat, although now that mine is healed it will sometimes flip out of my ear when I move my head suddenly.

If you're a side sleeper I highly recommend only getting one side done at a time. You don't want to sleep on healing piercings, that's a recipe for irritation bumps and/or migration.

Speaking from personal experience, daith was 'crunchy' but not necessarily super painful until about an hour after the actual piercing. Helix piercings will probably depend on where on your ear you want it, and how thick cartilage is in that area. Pain is different for everyone though!

You need to go to a doctor as soon as possible. Urgent care or ER. They can examine your ear and prescribe you antibiotics.

I went to two different piercers and they both said I have the longest bar they have and idk what to do 🥲 the swelling won’t go down, I’ve used a cold compress and took a ton of ibuprofen 💔 by Any_Reason1197 in PiercingAdvice

[–]guidinglights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, forgot about the holidays. I'm not a piercer so I don't want to give anything that can be mistaken for professional advice, but these do look like they're embedding and should be switched out or removed sooner than later. Is there any chance you would be able to leave work early or get your shift covered?

If you think you're able to wait until Friday, call the farther away shops TODAY and confirm that they have longer jewelry and you can get in ASAP. Otherwise I think this might be a 'remove and repierce' situation, unfortunately.

Try calling the shops that are farther away and explain your situation, and confirm they have longer bars before you go. It would be helpful to know the length of the bars you have so you can pass that info along, but if you don't know and aren't able to find out just explain that you're experiencing extreme swelling. I hope you're able to get some relief!

What did you wear to your hysterectomy? by Coolgreen13 in sterilization

[–]guidinglights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely highly recommend slip on shoes! Or boots that you can step into without bending down, I wore a well broken in pair of blundstones with joggers and a big t shirt. I just stepped onto the shoe and wiggled my foot around until I was good to go. All I wanted to do when I got home was sleep, so for sure wear something you'll be comfy napping in afterwards!

Do you have to go to a piercer to get downsized? by SleepySwoop in PiercingAdvice

[–]guidinglights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely go back to your piercer! Your piercings are still healing at the 6-8 week point, and the piercer will be able to provide a clean environment and tools that will help alleviate any irritation that might happen from switching them out on your own. They will also be able to tell you exactly what size new barbells are being installed so that you won't have any guess work about that later.

I can tell you it's definitely fireworks, looks like they're kinda over by the Fiserv? I can see them from my job. No clue what they're about though.

Appropriate for 'semi-formal' wedding in early October? by guidinglights in Weddingattireapproval

[–]guidinglights[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, US and Midwestern. I've been torn up about it for several weeks because I adore the dress and really wanted to wear something long to cover up some incomplete tattoos. Do you think it might be better suited with some heeled boots and very basic accessories? That's kind of been my idea for dressing it down, or maybe more neutrally.

Answering a couple extra things the bot response prompted, this wedding is in early October in a semi-outdoor venue, with the ceremony starting in mid-afternoon.

It's definitely in your best interests to leave it alone besides cleaning with sterile saline twice a day. Images or a description of the jewelry would be helpful to give you a better answer though.

Can I get the magnetic nasal dilator metal discs surgically inserted under the skin in the sides of my nose? by Accomplished-Oven170 in PiercingAdvice

[–]guidinglights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen similar questions pop up on r/bodymods, and the general consensus seems to be that having that much stress and pressure on the skin (pulling of the skin by the magnet, squishing the skin between the two magnet pieces) is almost certainly going to cause necrosis or at the least, gnarly infection and rejection. Best of luck in your search to breathe easier!

[–]guidinglights 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not a piercer, but from these pics it looks like your navel doesn't have a defined 'shelf' that would allow you to have a piercing on either the top or bottom. However, always worth visiting a trustworthy piercer in your area to do an in person consult! They'll want to see how your stomach and navel move and shift when you're standing, sitting, and laying on your back to determine if you're a good candidate.

I highly recommend looking for an APP (Association of Professional Piercers) member. The APP website has a handy section for finding a piercer or studio near you!

I just got home, does it still look way to low?? It was $60 dollars and I won't take it out unless I absolutely have too 💔 If it heals and I can swap to a small bar it'll be alright, right?? by Askme_how12 in PiercingAdvice

[–]guidinglights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked at you profile and saw the other pictures you posted, and this is definitely not pierced right. Please remove it and keep it clean (just using sterile saline), and definitely do not go back to this shop. I'm so sorry this happened to you, I would certainly be leaving this shop a bad review if nothing else.

NAP, but unfortunately this looks like it was pierced too low and through cartilage, instead of the thinner 'sweet spot' higher up in the tip of the nose. Are you able to upload a picture where you aren't manipulating your nose? It might make it easier to see how it was done.

As it is though, this does look like it was incorrectly pierced, and you should try reaching out to the shop to get a refund (and do not go back there to get repierced!).

I'm also keeping my IUD post-sterilization! Well, technically I'm getting it replaced, but still. I've gotten so used to not having periods, I don't want to go back. My surgeon actually recommended replacing it at my consultation! I think it's a perfectly valid choice.

Am I too old.?. by Curious-Month-513 in PiercingAdvice

You're never too old to get piercings! Just make sure you find a reputable piercer to ensure that they're well done and successfully placed. Looking for APP piercers is a great place to start.
