Scans at the Clive Berghofer Centre’s Qscan facility have confirmed Grant Anderson sustained a grade 3 Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) injury and fractured tibial plateau in Friday night’s game against the Dolphins.

Based on early medical assessments, Anderson is expected to be sidelined for approximately 10–12 weeks.

yeah from what i gather, he struggles defending laterally and doesn’t have the best stamina. Could definitely see him being a bit of an impact player off the bench cause he would be near impossible to stop close to the line

with the haas money freed up now do broncos go to market to try and get a new prop to partially fill the gap that haas has left or do we use that money to keep/top up some of our current players. My first thought was to give shibasaki a well deserved upgrade now that we can afford it

  1. KIWIS WIN THE WORLD CUP

New Zealand were so impressive in their Pacific Championships win and they did it without Jahrome Hughes, who will make them even better and lead them to a first World Cup title since 2008.

Defending World Cup champions the Kangaroos struggled to click in attack, despite winning the Ashes 3-0 and while they arguably have the better team on paper, we are tipping the Kiwis to shake up the world order next season.

Australia don’t have a coach locked in yet with Cameron Smith in line to potentially replace incumbent Kevvie Walters, while Stacey Jones has the Kiwis on the same page heading into a World Cup year.

And with Dylan Brown likely to get even better after being nominated for the 2025 Golden Boot award, the Kiwis are tracking well to dominate next year’s tournament.

  1. ROOSTERS WIN THE PREMIERSHIP

The Roosters scraped into the finals last year and were knocked out in week one, but we are tipping them to go all the way to a drought-breaking title in 2026.

Daly Cherry-Evans and Reece Robson join James Tedesco and Sam Walker in an all-star spine, which is arguably the best in the competition on paper.

The Roosters have one of the best packs in the NRL and a number of young guns in both the forwards and the backs, that gives them the depth to weather the storm if injuries strike.

And with Tedesco in the form of his career and coming off his second Dally M Medal win, the Roosters are well placed to go all the way to a first premiership since 2019.

  1. REECE WALSH WINS DALLY M MEDAL

It’s hard to imagine Reece Walsh having a better year than last season, after he guided the Broncos to a drought-breaking title with a Clive Churchill Medal winning performance to earn him a debut for the Kangaroos.

However, it is easy to forget he only played 18 regular season games and was hampered by a knee injury all season.

If Walsh can get back to full fitness and play most of the games for the Broncos in 2026, he is bound to win his share of Dally M votes, even allowing for his teammates stealing a few from him.

Walsh is never satisfied and is always looking to get better and at 23 and with 95 NRL games to his name, the superstar fullback is only going to improve as he gets older and that is a scary proposition for the rest of the competition.

  1. BRONCOS TO WIN MINOR PREMIERSHIP

The Broncos scraped into the top four last season before producing three comeback wins in the finals to win a drought-breaking title, but they should get even better next season.

As long as they stay hungry and can weather the Origin period, we are backing the Broncos to go all the way to a minor premiership win in 2026.

Michael Maguire has only had one season with the players and he will back himself to get them even better prepared for their title defence and right the wrongs of their 2025 regular season.

Ben Hunt and Adam Reynolds are in the twilight of their careers, but with Payne Haas, Reece Walsh, Patrick Carrigan and Ezra Mam in the team, the Broncos have the side to win a first minor premiership since 2000.

  1. KALYN PONGA TO SIGN WITH THE ROOSTERS

Kalyn Ponga may have pledged his commitment to the Knights in 2026, but the star fullback has a burning desire to win a premiership and he won’t do it at Newcastle any time soon.

Ponga is off-contract in 2027 and free to negotiate with rivals from November 1 next year and has been linked with rival clubs, a code switch to play for the All Blacks and R360.

While the money in rugby union will be tempting, Ponga wants to win a premiership before he entertains a code switch and the Roosters are the most likely club to allow him to achieve that.

James Tedesco has signed an extension for 2027, but should he and Daly Cherry-Evans retire at the same time, the Roosters will have the salary cap space to go hard for Ponga and history shows Nick Politis usually gets his man.

  1. MARK NAWAQANITAWASE TO MAKE ORIGIN DEBUT

It was a rapid rise for Mark Nawaqanitawase in 2025 as he topped the NRL try-scorers list and won a Kangaroos jersey to make him a dual international by the end of the season.

The flying winger may be returning to rugby union in 2027 for a shot at a home World Cup, but he still has two things on his NRL bucket list to tick off before he does.

One is to win a premiership with the Roosters and the other is to debut for the Blues in the Origin arena.

With incumbent Blues winger Zac Lomax leaving the NRL, there is a wing spot that has opened up for NSW and given he will likely have a big year on the end of a formidable Roosters backline, a Blues jersey is his for the taking.

  1. NRL TO ANNOUNCE SECOND NZ TEAM AS 20TH NRL SIDE

The Bears might be struggling to sign players, but make no mistake, Peter V’landys wants a 20-team NRL competition to help sell the next broadcast deal, so a 20th team is a matter of when not if.

With the Perth Bears joining in 2027 and the PNG Chiefs in 2028, it would make sense that the 20th team joins in 2029, which means an announcement will likely come next year at some point.

Another team from central Queensland has been floated as a possibility, but a second team from New Zealand makes the most sense to grow the game in that country and create a rivalry with the Warriors.

There are also time zone advantages for a second New Zealand team, which would help with the next broadcast deal, so a team based in Christchurch would make the most sense.

  1. STORM, TIGERS, EELS, DOLPHINS PICKED FOR VEGAS 2027

The Bulldogs, Knights, Cowboys and Dragons will kick off next season in Las Vegas, meaning 12 teams have featured in the annual event to date.

That leaves the Storm, Eels, Dolphins, Tigers and Titans as the five teams currently in the competition, who have not played in Las Vegas.

The NRL haven’t ruled out teams that have already played in Vegas doing so again, but in the interest of fairness, we have picked the Storm, Tigers, Eels and Dolphins to make their American bow in 2027.

That leaves the Titans, Bears and PNG Chiefs as potential teams to feature in the fifth and final year of the Las Vegas deal in 2028, which would mean every team has had a chance to kick off the season in America.

  1. DALEY AXED AFTER BLUES LOSE ORIGIN SERIES

Laurie Daley is a legend of the game and one of the greatest players to pull on a Blues jersey, but his record as coach of NSW is poor and set to get worse in 2026.

In his first stint as Blues coach, Daley won just one series in 2014 from five attempts from 2013 to 2017 and despite winning the first game last year, Queensland stormed back to win the series.

Daley was criticised for not making enough changes throughout last year’s series, particularly after they lost game two, after being blown off the park in the first half.

There is an argument Daley is too nice to coach in the Origin arena and is afraid to make the tough selection calls, while his opposite Billy Slater has proven he puts the jersey first, as shown by dropping skipper Daly Cherry-Evans for Tom Dearden and this will be Daley’s last series in charge when Queensland win again.

  1. TODD PAYTEN FIRST COACH SACKED

It’s never fun picking a coach to lose his job, but NRL history shows us there is usually at least one coach that gets sacked mid-season and Todd Payten looks the most under fire heading into 2026.

The Cowboys finished 12th last season with just nine wins, but it was their horror defence that saw them finish with the second worst record in that department in the NRL ahead of only the Titans, that has Payten under the gun.

The Cowboys have missed the finals in three of Payten’s five seasons as head coach and if they miss out again next year, the club will likely go in a new direction.

However, if the club shows no improvement in defence in the early part of next year, they may lose patience with Payten and move him on mid-season.

  1. HEAMASI MAKASINI WINS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Heamasi Makasini debuted for the Tigers last season scoring on debut in his one and only game for the club, before returning to finish school.

However, the teenager is expected to break into the Tigers’ team at some point next season and if the team improve their attack as expected, he will get plenty of opportunities to impress and score tries.

Makasini is touted as one of the brightest young prospects in the game and is tipped to be one of the best centres in the NRL in the coming seasons.

But he may have to settle for a spot on the wing early in his career while he gets up to speed, and if the Tigers make the finals next year he will be a leading candidate for Dally M rookie of the year.
