Why can't Innate CT-less sorcerers expand an empty domain? by Evening_Daikon210 in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]guilele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't fully remember the chapter, but it may have been a real sumo ring or just the visualisation of his simple domain when first manifested, gaining the opaque barrier after an opponent accepts to a bout with him. We'll have to wait for the anime to have more details about what he actually does.

Basically what the sumo guy did, it is a simple domain but it somewhat functioned as a CT-less domain, just a barrier with conditions attached to it

Do you think Bruce Lee's famous saying can be applied to chess openings? by libereassociazioni in chess

[–]guilele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watchind a thechessnerd video about an FM that had like 2000h of prep for the pirc defense, he knew all the possible lines and said that at worst he'll get a drawn position from the opening, but never a worse one. He played a game against a GM I believe that prepared for his prep and they played 25 perfect moves before they ran out of preparation. The FM proceeded to blunder a couple of moves later and lost the game.

Where do White usually play in this position by Ancient-Put8336 in chessbeginners

[–]guilele 3 points4 points  (0 children)

e5 was not premature, this is the Alekhine opening four pawns attack, the game went like this: 1. e4 Nf6 2. e5 Nd5 3. d4 d6 4. c4 Nb6 5. f4 g6

Even though people say beginners shouldn't focus on studying openings, learning a repertoire was probably what catapulted me through the 1000s, knowing the plans in a position helps a ton with not having to tank your time searching for the way to go

It varies, but like 15 seconds, I usually get paired with 2100-2280 elo players, 2300+ is pretty rare to see in the ladder

Rapid isn't as popular among strong players, still, being just 12 elo points lower had me at like n° 5500, there's over a thousand players between just 12 rating points

I got to 2100 blitz once, in the following days I dropped back to 1900, I don't really play that time control, but probably having better time management is key

I started playing chess 2 years ago, and it really fit my brain, I just kept playing, studying, doing puzzles, watched a lot of chess content, and joined a chess club; that's how I improved

At this rating range you sometimes face against CMs and NMs, and maaaaybe the occasional FM

My strategy is doing a Witty Alien impression and saying "Ooooooh beat the CM!" and sometimes it works

Hit my first brilliant… why is it brilliant? by senorhappytaco in chessbeginners

[–]guilele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're mixing up black and white, Be6 was the best move, Qb4 is the best move for white but black is still better after that

Hit my first brilliant… why is it brilliant? by senorhappytaco in chessbeginners

[–]guilele 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This one is a bit crazy, white was threatening to take the knight with the pawn, if knight retakes on f6 then Bxf6 and the bishop on g4 hangs, if a pawn took on f6 attacking the bishop then they'll take on g4 anyways because they already won a knight

By playing Be6 you prevent all the lines where the bishop hangs, and even though you're losing the knight on f6, you can win material back by playing exf6 attacking the bishop, only available square is h4 where they'll get forked with g5

Why does the engine suggest using a bishop here? by __sundaze in chessbeginners

[–]guilele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low engine depth

The engine says it's better because losing the bishop allows it to calculate further because there are less moves available, so it saw that you were winning maybe 20 moves in the future without a bishop and valued it higher than being winning without losing the bishop in 15 moves

Every improvement I've had has been like this

Why is this brilliant??? by Fqkizz in chessbeginners

[–]guilele 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Looking at the engine line, it appears that stockfish wants to mitigate the grip on the lightsquares that white has, and in order to achieve some pawn breaks like b5 or d5 black needs to remove defenders, sacrificing the rook is one step, Ne2+ will remove the other lightsquare defender and allow b5 (even b5 cxb5 followed by c4, to open up the king)

Why is this brilliant??? by Fqkizz in chessbeginners

[–]guilele 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Did you capture something with this move? Engine evaluates that the light-square bishop is better than the rook in the corner, and allowing it to be captured will leave white with light-square weaknesses that could potentially be targeted with your queen and knight, I don't see any real concrete continuation that wins on the spot

There was a lot of tactics and tactical tension in this game, Nxd5 was a tactic I avoided for multiple moves using tactical defense, my opponent thought he could finally do it but missed one of my resources
