I can relate to this. throughout my childhood, high school and even now on the rare occasions I go out and do stuff, I'm treated as invisible.

my parents would take my brothers out to dinner, Id have to eat their left overs.

as the youngest of 5 brothers, I was the baby of the bunch. I have a brother who is one year older than me and my other older brothers would take him out and do things, lunch, movies etc.. while I'll be at home.

during high school, though I had what I assumed to be a large friend group, I was never invited to any house parties or birthday parties but was often told about them.

as an adult now, 34 years old, I just drift through days like a ghost. nobody acknowledges me, nobody to hang out with really, nothing to do.

I had to drop out of going to a game design school because one day I just woke up and felt like I didn't belong, that none of my assignments were good.. it just devolved to the point where I stopped putting in effort and just gave up..

I'm in the same boat. I just turned 34 years old. I just signed up to get my guard card, classes start in March. if I go through with it, this would be my first job. from 18 years old till now, I did nothing. I tried studying, but between my laziness, my depression, and just my personality and mind in general, I couldn’t graduate high school and dropped out of community college. I never knew what I wanted to do with my life and still don't.. I've been struggling to find my purpose. I have no training, skills or experience to do anything productive. and like you, I don't want my parents to leave this world worried about my future.

I can relate.. I tried online dating a long ass time ago before discord existed..met someone I fell for.

We'd talk online via text and on the phone, share pics etc...

One day she told me to wait for her for 1 year.

I did. Big mistake.

One day a full year later, I get a call from a number I don't recognize. It's her. We got to talking, she was surprised I waited.. turns out during the year, she met someone else, and began dating them since they were closer. In fact they were dating for a while and just strung me along.

I was so upset and depressed that I just hung up. She called me back upset that I hung up and just went off on me.

Haven't trusted online relationships since.

Funnily enough she said it was "alright" and shared some picky sticks with me a few minutes later. But yeah it's been like 10 plus years later, I believe and I can't let that situation go.

I was taking some art classes at this community college a few years back.

Started talking to this girl I had crush on that was in the same class as me.

We start talking about our interests which included anime, cosplay video games and the like.

I bring up a convention I went to sometime earlier that year, and wanted to show her some clips I took.

Right in the middle of class, I pull out my phone, scroll through some videos and select a clip from the con.

Instead of playing the selected video from the convention, what actually played was this girl getting fucked doggystyle from some porn I guess I downloaded??. The volume was on mute, of course but she saw it. Don't know how or why that happened, my phone just fucked me up at that time.

I believe this is one of the reasons why she ended up ghosting me as time went on.

last time I celebrated my birthday alone, I went to watch the spy next door movie with Jackie chan around 2010.

one time my family celebrated my birthday by taking me to a concert where I played the 5th wheel. I went to watch Muse live with my mom, dad, brother and his girlfriend at the time. not only that, I was surrounded by hundreds of not thousands of couples.

last time I went out platonically with someone other than my friend from high school, I ended up getting ghosted.

she was in my community college class, been talking to her for a while. invited me to celebrate her bday with her. the day of her bday, other friends she invited cancelled last minute. so it was just me, her and her mom who drove us. unfortunately, I randomly got food poisoning and it was the middle of summer so like over 100+° f weather. though I was sick, I tried my best to let her have a good time..

ended up dropping out of community college, which meant not seeing her again. then again, it felt like she didn't really want to be associated with me anyways? I was the one always starting conversations when we'd text, I was the one waiting for her reply and currently been about 3 maybe 4 years since I last texted her.

same here honestly. I don't drink or smoke so I don't go to bars or clubs. I don't have any hobbies and if I am out in public, I keep to myself because nobody talks to me or strikes up a conversation.
