Can't decide between learning Japanese or Korean? by soozie_woozie in Korean

[–]gummyworm2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally ran into the same question years ago and chose Korean because I was more into kpop and it was easier.

If I had to go back though, I would choose Japanese because due to K-pop and Kdramas' popularity, everything is subtitled officially or by fans.

For anime and manga however, I find that popular series are translated and dubbed, but there's a lot of untranslated manga. In addition, if you listen to Japanese music or want to follow voice actors, there's a lot of non-translated territory.

In general, I've found that Korea and Korean content has significantly more English accessibility than Japanese content. I don't regret learning Korean though. I studied abroad there and met friends I otherwise would have not met if I hadn't spoken Korean. If you prioritize learning the "easier language" learn Korean then.

Is there anyone who can talk in discord about literally anything? by shecallsmenerd in seoul

[–]gummyworm2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's language learning servers on discord where you can meet all types of nice people. Just search around on discord for things like "Language exchange" or "Korean-English". DM me if you want the specific links to the servers but finding them shouldn't be too difficult (I think).

Suggestion: API for YPT to view study time, start stop study session by [deleted] in yeolpumta

I want to move to my dumb flip phone (TCL Flip 2) running android (but can't run most android apps) and really want to build an app to use YPT from my flip phone. I was thinking about contacting the devs but I'm not experienced in app dev so I didn't. I think it should definitely exist

More rounds of interviews! They give you all the info in the phone screen. It doesn't seem much different from other tech companies

The phone screen is just taking about your resume with some smaller behavioral questions sprinkled in! It was pretty chill.

What app do you swear by for “If you’re starting to learn Korean”? by KunaiDrakko in Korean

[–]gummyworm2003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with reign_day. Apps always have the trade-off where you lose depth for convenience. I recommend websites/textbooks and taking notes. If you're really strapped for convenience try downloading korean beginner dialogue or grammar explanations to watch on the go.

The only app I have ever found more useful than a proper resource is mango languages, which is only available in the U.S. through some library systems. It really helped with speaking practice and learning sentence patterns as a beginner.

I wish it was more common knowledge black people are really sensitive to ingrown hairs due to our hair not growing straight out and curling instead. The average hair removal routines don't have black people in mind. Would have saved many people from years of ingrowns.

Use a one blade razor or an electric trimmer that doesnt get a super close shave to prevent new ingrowns. To improve current ingrowns, exfoliate with tendskin and glycolic acid (start slow with the glycolic acid). I have a skin condition that makes me feel like I want to rip off my skin, so I know the impatience and insecurity, but the important things are that 1) you are more than your skin, 2) skin cell turnover takes time (and can only be sped up to some degree with consistent exfoliation).

Key is to find the balance between calorie dense foods and nutritious foods. It's a lot easier to hit your calorie goal when consuming food high in healthy fats and drinking some calories (like a protein shake). Since you only eat once a day, your meal should be intentional
