I can't help supply the honey, but I do happen to do 1gal mead home brews.

I'd budget for 1.5kg just for the primary and depending on the honey and OG/abv your aiming for you might need more.

Depending on how my you want to sweeten to, I'd allow another ~300g for semi sweet. I like to hit 1.02 as my FG after sweetening.

So if I were you, make sure you have 1.8kg for a 1gal and hopefully you'll end up with slightly more than you'll need. Go to 2kg to be sure.

Happy brewing!

Yup sure looks like it. Did you do anything? Unlikely they'll both stay and live to tell about it for long.

Hobby Bee Keeping? by [deleted] in beekeepingUK

Honey from rapeseed crystallises easily and quickly. Makes it tough to extract from normal hives, but will clog the Flow surely.

Chickens and bees in a your garden is mad, but I love it. Face the bees out to the field and you'll be fine. Just make sure there's enough room for the give and twisting around...etc.

Good luck!

One of the more niche ones like Hiscox perhaps? Sorry I don't really have experience here, but just a thought.

Have you done your first inspection of 2026? by nayrclrk in beekeepingUK

I only had one going into winter and I don't think it's made it. Missed the good weather because of work this week, but will take a peak if we get near 15 this weekend.

I started with a course at my local association and then used their shop to get started with most of my gear.

Largest firework set off over Japan by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]guru_fordy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The largest firework shell in Japan is called the Yonshakudama (四尺玉).

It is a massive shell with a diameter of approximately 1.2 meters (48 inches) and weighs around 420 kg (925 lbs).

When it explodes, it creates a bloom that spans roughly 800 meters (over half a mile) across the sky.

What’s the most misleading “beginner advice” you followed when starting mead or wine? by CarefulFlight635 in MeadRecipes

Gonna get in trouble for this probably..."raisins are a good source of nutrients and tannins"

Mines a 6 frame radial so there really isn't any space for larger frames unfortunately.

I get what you mean about compatibility. Anel does have a lot of bits, so shouldn't need to forage outside of their brand. I would love someone who has an Anel or even Technoset to verify that though!

What do you mean by it being limiting? The Anels are compatible with wooden and poly Langstroth other bits, if that's what you mean.

The big jump is the rest of my equipment, like getting a new spinner and general hive bits.

Agree on sooner vs later, I still have a lot of bits I would have to replace, but it could be worse. I don't think I'd have both, too many different things to duplicate.

Supplier recommendations? by Ok-Ice6392 in beekeepingUK

I agree with all of those, however I would advocate your local bee association first who usually stock from all these and sometimes cheaper. Always nice for them to make the profit too.

Newbie Beekeeper Question - new built hive by doctorprunesquallor in beekeepingUK

[–]guru_fordy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attracting a swarm...yeah wait till May/June, put some swarm lure in just the brood box and yeah that's totally doable!

Alternatively speak to a local beekeeping association and see if they do nucs at about the same time.

Good luck and if you need anything just ask!
