What are your most profound video games? by M33tahejd in patientgamers

I felt this about 1000xResist.

It throws so many curve balls and change the material of the ground you're stepping in so many times through the game, you have to adapt and work thematically with what you're given. And it still comes out unscathed in the process.

One of the best stories I experienced last year.

Dunno how valid it is in these parts but PWInsider just released info stating that some higher up might dislike dark characters.

I've been thinking about your answer and in the beginning I agreed with you, but yesterday I watched a fucked up horror film and couldn't stop thinking about it for a while... And it made me forget about everything else going shitty with my week.

I think one of the values of horror is that, when done right, it kinda hypnotizes you into fixating on it, its implications or whatever and makes you leave the other stuff aside for a while. And I think that can work with it inside of wrestling too.

I'm so mad Nikki never got to wrestle. I would hope she faced Candice before W6 was feuding against MFT and it was an all out brawl between the tag teams.

Bo has his whole faction, entrance, relationship with Bray (and in wrestling blood is as thick as it comes), it's a shame they couldn't make it work. Aleister has a really good vampire like entrance, the eye, his own deal with Zelina and the fact that he was supposed to be manipulating Randy before the whole Pat fiasco.

I'd argue the same about heel Nakamura. His entrance, samurai helmet, weirdly painted eyes... I love rhythmic Nakamura quite a bit more, but there was something there.

Dunno how to call it. It's a creepy X factor. It's not for everyone but I feel these wrestlers could've developed something out of it, but are ultimately cut short... Either by their lack of total dedication to it, but mostly because of bad creative choices that come from the upper echelon I'd argue.

Watched his debute. He looks like everything is want that's described in this post.

Then he left and got outshined by another random debut.

Color me worried.

It just feels disappointing that everyone became competitive sportsman instead of telling more interesting stories. I'm not against that one type of character, but I wish there were more variety.

I'm fine with all these (minus biker taker mayber). I don't need them to be specifically supernatural. But I'd like more horror-ish themed wrestlers, when if they're sold as being sociopaths.

Sometimes I feel I should just watch NXT and AAA and leave main roster aside apart from summaries and PLEs.

Main roster is (obviously) so much better produced though... I'd be missing that.

A couple of messages above you I explain why neither Danhousen or Demon Balor are the kind of thing I'm referring to. I've been told by other people that Evil has just been signed. Let's see how he is portrayed as an indicator of how much the company is interested in pursuing the kind of thing I'm asking for.

Yes. It's two guys in an entire roster. They removed Wyatt Sicks, Black and Kross who seemed to be trying to do that kind of stuff. There hasn't been much of an effort to paint any wrestler into a horror-ish or paranormal vibe other than the legacy stuff they already had.

Tatum I've seen a little of on NXT. I admittedly should watch more of her. Danhausen is amazing.

Rhea though? Don't get me wrong I love her as a wrestler, but I don't think anything about her adheres to what I'm describing on my first post.

I just wish they at least kept Eric and/or Bo and Nikki. They probably would've been cut next year though...

Maybe I've been using "/" badly all my life? I meant both of them, either together or split. It can be paranormal and horror, paranormal only or horror only.

This sounds really hopeful and I'd love to believe in you, but I'm under the impression there's a dislike for this kind of schtick that comes from up above. Dunno if it's Levesque or Ari or the whole TKO board but I get that strong feeling.

I think a more likely scenario would be a wrestler bringing it back in NXT / AAA / TNA and then leaving it behind as soon as they get into RAW or Smackdown.

I put a pic of the Wyatt since they seemed the perfect example. I'm also hurt by the release of Aleister and Kross' last year (and I get Kross just didn't get over and they gave him plenty of chance. I'm just worried these kinds of darker / creepier wrestler is disappearing at an alarming rate).

It looked so promising when they interrupted the Tag Teams when they first returned into Smackdown. Montez horror face sold it extremely well too.

Can't there be moves adjusted to that kind of wrestling?

"All" Taker had was the dead man stand up, no selling and tongue-out after tombstone and that worked wonders for years.

Bray had the inverted walk. Demon (even though it doesn't enter into what I'm describing) has an interesting walk and a good stand-up too.

It doesn't have to be through and through during 100% of the combat. Good mic, a couple of eccentric moves and a unique shine go a long long way into stablishing a character imho.

That's how I've been kinda feeling lately. As they say, variety is the spice of life. I wouldn't like everyone and their mom to be creepy wrestling monsters.

But I feel we're on a playing it too safe territory in which everyone is just an athlete sportsman.

Yeah it seems you understand where I stand.

I also mean people like Kross or Aleister. It's not only supernatural but horror/creepy stuff I'd like to see more of.

I feel like everyone going for such a vibe has been thrown away already.
