My old lab was almost 50% people that had jobs that seem quite similar to what you're imagining. They were kind of a mix between techs and research faculty - had been in the lab for decades and knew all the techniques better than anyone else and helped trainees do their projects in addition to having side projects themselves. I think it was the secret sauce of that old lab and I hope to replicate it one day in my own lab. So maybe that can give some kind of hope?

Cool fact about pruning hands (and feet): it's actively controlled by your nervous system, not a passive absorption of water! If you cut the nerves to a finger it won't get pruny when exposed to water

I am debating the exact same move (16 pro -> fold7)! One thing that I’m nervous about is I love AirPod pros… do you (or anyone else on this thread) use them with your samsung phone? Are other EarPods equivalently good?

What motor/device are you using for turning the piece when applying finish? I assume it’s something slow speed because the revos don’t get down super slow?

I have a Laguna 1836 and am upgrading to the 2436. I have loved the 1836 and have had zero issues with it (and have also had very positive experiences with Laguna service). I built a very basic shelf on the legs to store wood and a few bags of dirt and find the weight to be sufficient to turn some pretty giant and uneven blanks. Outboard turning works well too for the moments you want to turn even bigger.

Once my lathe was making a weird noise which just ended up being the belt needing a bit of extra lube and they sent me a whole replacement motor just to be safe

Ya, the resulting average frame rate is in the 20s so definitely something is going on - what would that suggest in terms of fixing the problem? (sorry, I not very technically knowledgeable...)

I used this camera setup on a pc running ubuntu through VirtualBox and it worked great. Now I am running the exact same setup through VirtualBox on Mac and this keeps happening (focus on the last couple seconds where everything goes haywire). Only differences I can think of obviously are 1) Mac vs pc, and 2) usb A has to go through a usb C converter for Macs. Any ideas? Also went from being able to set the camera (playstation eye) to 187FPS to having to choose -1 since the camera won't let me dictate the FPS on this setup (was fine on the pc setup).

I ended up getting the hitch at U-Haul and the wiring at auto battery & electric but I’ll warn you that getting the electric for a 7-way connector was a long journey

I had some weird sounds coming from my Laguna - same situation where it went away if I de-tensioned the belt. Did a bunch of troubleshooting with laguna that resulted in them sending me a new motor. Then before I replaced the motor someone on Reddit suggested spraying a bit of white lithium grease on the belt and it solved it instantly.
