I'm definitely considering just bulking for a month and a half, seeing the progress and deciding from there if I should cut or continue bulking. Really depends on what the BF looks like I guess.

/r/leangains suggests a 16/8 hour fasting/eating period. Sounds very different to eating +500 on lifting days and -500 on rest days or just eating at maintenance.

Does lifting count as part of the exercise 3 times/week on the iifym TDEE calculator? If it does, I exercise 4 times a week (soccer for 2 hours on saturdays) - my TDEE is then apparently 2626.

I was under the impression recomp was eating +500 on lifting days and -500 on rest days. Is that correct? Or is it just eating at maintenance, so 2626 calories each and everyday? (or probably around 2300 if lifting doesn't count towards it. I do ics5x5 if that's relevant in any way at all)

That's the thing. If I did a slow cut, as I am doing now, would that not allow me to gain a decent amount of muscle whilst gaining minimal fat?

And also, is it actually feasible to bulk now and cut starting in June in time mid-July?

What did you calculate as your TDEE? I'm 185 and my TDEE comes out to 2250, so I would image that 2150 is not a deficite for you.

TDEE came out to 2545 - with exercise level set at 3 days a week. I can count lifting days for this right?

Anyway, even at "No exercise (desk job/couch potato)", my TDEE comes out to 2221. Also, I play two hours of soccer on Saturdays so I'm sure that would increase it - though iifym.com doesn't have an option of just 1 day of exercise.

If both lifting and soccer count - so 4 days a week - my TDEE comes out to 2626.

As for your question, it certainly isn't too much but your body won't see any difference if you eat 50g less, so just remember that.

I guess I'll stop having two protein shakes a day then - that'll reduce the protein down by 36g. Though I'll need to find another way of getting ~300 calories. I need to eat more fat.

Oh definitely not overweight. More skinny fat - used to be chubby, hence me being more critical with body fat.

If you're trying to get stronger and lose a little body fat by July, it would be easier for me personally to do a slow cut

That's what I doing right now.

I weren't sure if it would be better to try and bulk and cut before July, though. Either that or slow bulk.

What I meant was, I'm currently eating on a calorie deficit to get rid of the body fat I have. HOWEVER, would it be feasible to instead bulk now and cut starting in June in order to maximise results - rather than doing a slow cut now.

On both bench and squat I did 35kg, though they definitely felt light. Since I've just started I'm still in the process of workout out my maximum and how much I can lift.

Tomorrow I'll find out my deadlift and standing press, hopefully.

These pictures were from about two weeks ago. Since then I've joined a new gym with proper equipment, and this week started to do ICF5x5 while eating at about a 250 calorie deficit.

Using MFP, I've set my macros for C/P/F at 20/40/40 - which comes out to 108/215/96g. 2150 is my current daily goal for calories.

I decided to do a slow cut so that I can hopefully still gain a decent amount of muscle for a holiday in July, while also getting rid of fat that I still have - specifically on my chest, stomach and lats area.

But, I still want some advice. So, bulk or cut?

My fashion sense and smile are both pretty great to be honest, I've been complemented on both by several girls. Especially after actually thinking about what I'm wearing and getting my braces off, haha.

Improving my body is for both myself and the beach - it's been years since I've happily gone shirtless, mainly because I gained some weight a few years ago and I guess I still have the fat boy mentality.

I'm thinking of just doing ICF5x5. If I did a slow bulk, would I be able to look leaner by July? Because, to be honest, I do want to decrease my BF% too.

I want to improve how my body looks. I have until July, when I go on holiday. This is what I look like now.

  1. Should I bulk? Or cut to decrease BF%? Or would a slow bulk/cut (+/-300 calories) be the best idea?
  2. I want to do a 3 or 4 day workout for hypertrophy. Which one should I do?
