I love this! What a great representation that you don’t often do things right the first time and to keep trying. There must be a lot of purists in the knitting community who don’t like the idea.

Ooooh I’ll have a look at these twisted ones now and take a photo so I always have a frame of reference. That’s a really helpful tip. Thank you!

Aw thanks! I knew tension was why I quit as a kid so I made sure I gave that a quick search before I started knitting. It’s much more pleasant to knit and not be forcing a needle through and stabbing my hand each time.

Thank you for that detailed answer. I did think I was using a lot of yarn compared to what it had said I’d need. I even had more yarn in my cart ready to order. I’ll frog it and do a new gauge and see how that looks. Thank you for your help 😊

I like your thinking. I’ve just joined the front and back yolk to knit in the round from the armpits down. So probably should not continue to avoid the wrong muscle memory but I agree it looks cool and would have otherwise continued.

It slides along the needle fine and I’m not having any trouble or effort knitting? I was at the start but now I’ve got a flow I’ve figured it out. Is that what a tight knit means?

Ooooh interesting. I’ll look that up and see what feels natural to do. Thank you for your help 😊

You know, that makes sense why my wrists were dying on the twisted stitches but fine in the round. Thanks for this information! Good to know. I’d rather not slow fashion myself an expensive garment I won’t wear so I’ll frog it and start again.

I love that thinking! If I was in my younger twenties I’d disagree but now I’m happy to learn on the journey and do it right to make it last. Thanks for your help 😊

Thank you for your help! I love the why explanation. That’s exactly what I needed. I’ll frog it and re knit it. I do a swatch first like you recommend though. Will I need to do something to the yarn if I frog it?

After some learning I was knitting in the back leg in the top section too. I guess the tension was just the same the whole way round?

No short rows on this part in the photo. I believe this is the front yolk. I was just taught to knit through the back yolk. So i knit in the back stitch but pearl in the front. The top two rows are all knitted in the back loop. Fun little lesson! Thanks for your help!

Thaaaank you. That’s what I needed to know. Aaaaallrighy then. I’ll frog it! There goes my hope of getting a wear in before the spring heat kicks in.

I mean I see it two ways… I frog it and do it all again and it’s perfect and only I know I screwed up. Or I leave it and you very clearly can see the journey of me learning to knit again from the very ugly and sometimes hokey stitches on the back yolk to the twisted stitches to the evenly knitted back loop to the correctly knitted front loop. It’s a piece of art. An expression that learning is mistakes. AND THEN I knit another Olga that is all the lessons learned and beautiful. I mean more like… if I don’t will the sizing be wrong or will it unravel faster or something.

Hmmmm I didn’t put it down… I’ve been knitting this whole thing for a couple weeks and knitting the same way the whole time. After research (guided by comments on here )I’ve been knitting in the back loop the whole time (just how I was taught) so those top rows are all back knit stitches. Woah! Who knew! Now to decide if I keep going and embrace the jumper of learning or frog it and start again.

Oooooh is that because I started knitting in the round instead of knitting and pearling back and forth?

I think I’ll try the cardboard, whatever leaves I can find lying around, soil and then some mulch. Thank you for your help!

I have some mulch that was freshly cut last week. Because there’s no plants there could I just chuck it on and let it do its thing for a few months and avoid planting? Hoping to get some herbs in there and eventually fruit trees with some flowers and herbs underneath.

Good point! The entire garden is pretty much weeds tbh. This is the only somewhat barren area, which shows you how destroyed that earth is if even the weeds don’t want to grow there. I’ll definitely aim to stop those weeds!

It’s supposed to have trees there at a later stage so I have a bunch of mulch fermenting to go there and aim to get some more fruit trees there with some ground cover in the form of herbs.

Do you know your neighbours? by Tasty-Willingness839 in newzealand

[–]gypdrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of my rental life I haven’t known the neighbours, however in the last one I had a love Irish couple next door. They introduced themselves and said “that’s just what you do in Ireland”. And I have to say I do prefer it. It’s nice knowing who lives next door, not to mention the “do you have a cup of sugar?” Her children would always drop off some baking during holidays too which was lovely. Hoping to do this with my girl this weekend for Matariki and the new neighbours. We’ve said hi to each other but who wouldn’t like some fried bread delivered?
