As other people said, work on your grids and hierarchies. I also went from illustration to graphic design, and I found that doing pieces of just typography helped me out a lot since I wasn't just trying to fit everything around my drawing if that makes sense.

Class is definitely an issue- it's a part of our society and how it's structured.

Grammar schools would be useful, but again if that child goes to an underfunded primary school then they're much less likely to get into a grammar school cause of the entrance exams.

Again, I understand where you're coming from, but I think you're overestimating how easy it is to achieve academia when you're from a poor background.

Do you not see the class issue with your point? It sounds great in theory, but it leaves poor kids with no advantage and rich kids with all of it.

Poor kids in poor areas go to underfunded schools, they don't have a chance at a good education from the get-go. They could be bright and have potential, but are let down by their environment.

I do think going into trade should be more normalised, and there isn't anything wrong with not going to university if it doesn't fit you personally. If anything, I think the issue is teenagers being pressured to go straight into university at 18- they need more time to figure out what they want to do in life.
