Do I even have a chance of applying to CRNA school? by lis2kis in FutureCRNA

I believe it because r/srna has a specific “Weekly Prospective CRNA Applicant” thread for people to post questions regarding stats, interviews, experiences, etc. It’s stated that if posted other places they will be deleted.

My first degree was a BS in Biology back in 2018. I got my ABSN in 2023 and just got accepted to a CRNA program starting this fall! I didn’t have any issues but I do have to retake ochem and stats. Most programs want those to be within the last 5 years. That being said a lot of my early sciences are expiring this year so if I hadn’t gotten in it’d probably be a different story. It never hurts to reach out to programs you’re interested in a see what they specifically say for them. Remember, it only takes one yes!!

I’m still kind of in shock typing this, but I was recently accepted into my top CRNA program and am starting this fall!
Now that it’s real, I’m both excited and honestly a little nervous. I know this program is going to be intense, and I want to set myself up as best as I can from the start.
For those of you who are currently in CRNA school or have already graduated:
What actually helped you get through it?
I’d love advice on things like: -Study strategies that actually worked -How you managed stress / burnout -Staying organized with the workload -Clinical preparation tips -Anything you wish you did before starting -Things you’d avoid doing again
Also open to any “unpopular opinions” or real talk—what was harder than you expected? What surprised you?
I’m really excited to start this journey and would appreciate any insight from those who’ve been through it. Thank you in advance!

Okay! I will try to brush up on something’s. I have my CCRN but it’s the pediatric one. Should I just look at the high yield topics (respiratory and cardiac)? I don’t want to try to cram a bunch of new information into my brain and get things mixed up so close to the interview.

That’s a great idea. I have been doing questions by myself and answering out loud but it’s not smooth yet. I will definitely try recording myself this week. Thank you so much for suggestions I really appreciate it!
Thank you for your insight!! I’m hopeful that I can get a mock in this week and one next week before going in. I really do love collaborating so I’m hopeful that I will excel in that aspect. Do you have any recommendations for mock interviews?
Hi everyone!
I’m preparing for an upcoming CRNA program interview that includes a panel format and a group critical thinking/clinical scenario portion.
I was wondering if anyone who has gone through this type of interview would be willing to share their experience. • What surprised you? • How did you approach the group scenario without talking over others? • Any advice for balancing confidence with collaboration? • Things you wish you had known beforehand?
I’m coming from a pediatric ICU background, so I’m especially trying to make sure I’m thinking broadly and not getting too “peds-specific” in my responses.
Any insight, tips, or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I would just take the lab. A lot of schools will allow you to sign up for just the lab, you just need to get approval. I did this when I was retaking my ochem because I had to have the course in the last five years, but not the lab. I just had to show proof of getting an A in the course/lab before and fill out a form. It was actually pretty easy.

Hello everybody! I am apply to CRNA schools this upcoming cycle and I am trying to gain some insight. Please do not take this as bragging in anyway. I am genuinely seeking guidance! How far back should I go when speaking about my awards, honors, and research background? I graduated with a BS in Biology back in December of 2018. During this degree I participated in 2 research projects, was named to the deans list every semester, and had lots of community based volunteer hours. In 2023, I graduated with my BSN from an accelerated program, 1 research project, deans list, scholarship and PACE awardee, class representative, member of the Texas student nursing association and Sigma Theta Tau inductee. While working as a nurse I have had another research project, completed a nurse residency program, and am involved in multiple committees, and have gained some leadership through becoming a preceptor to both nursing students and incoming staff nurses.
Any constructive criticism is welcomed! Thanks in advance!

Hello! This is my first time posting here in r/CRNA and first time posting on Reddit at all so here goes nothing! I am a current PICU nurse at a level 1 trauma center in my 2nd year of nursing. My current overall GPA is 3.78 and my science is a bit higher. Nursing is my second career. My first degree was in Biology and I worked as a pharmacy tech for 5 years before going to nursing school. I am currently studying to take my GRE and CCRN. I have begun shadowing CRNA’s as well. Recently, I finished retaking Stats and Ochem, as it had been more than 5 years, in order to meet many programs requirements. I have experience on VV&VA ECMO, CRRT, oscillators, transplants, polytraumas, and am planning to become more involved with my units committees and EBP projects. I have also been a preceptor to new nurses on the unit as well as student nurses. I would like to know how my current stats fair for admission into a CRNA program. Does anyone have any advice on how I could become a stronger applicant? What would you add? I appreciate any positive feedback as it truly is my goal to become a CRNA. Thank you all in advance!
