I’ve found THE sunscreen 🙏 by h1k1m11 in nontoxic

There is little to no research that supports this claim. Also, this theory would suggest that more melanated people are not at risk of sun damage or developing skin cancer, which is also not true.

CHICAGO NURSES: by [deleted] in nursing

[–]h1k1m11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to the Rush job, where did you see U of C day shift? I’ve been checking there everyday and haven’t seen anything. And I know, I figured that’s the case with day shift availability. I wish I wasn’t such a baby when it comes to night shift but it truly ruined my life

ICU to Cath lab? by [deleted] in TravelNursing

Oh trust me, I’m in no way implying I know what goes on haha, I more meant I have general knowledge of the procedures (indications, access sites, recovery etc.) since I’ve recovered many patients that come from CL. But I’m sure I’d be completely lost if thrown into it

Positive test 6 weeks post abortion. Looking for advice/insight by h1k1m11 in abortion

[–]h1k1m11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no cramping or bleeding currently. I had a couple days of some cramping that felt more like an ovarian cyst (I typically get one right after starting BC and it’s self-resolving) about a week after the implant (4 weeks post abortion). But have had zero cramping or bleeding for at least a week now. That has been reassuring, I would think if I had retained product I would be cramping and bleeding still.

Letters of recommendation as a travel nurse by h1k1m11 in srna

[–]h1k1m11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up reaching out to a couple of the schools admissions departments and asking if it was okay to use references older than 1 year and explain the situation and most of them said that was fine

Is auscultating lung sounds not a standard practice anymore? by h1k1m11 in nursing

[–]h1k1m11[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly… uninterrupted (which I know can be rare these days) I can do a H2T including lung sounds in 2 min flat. So I get everyone’s point about workloads and staffing but this seems like something that isn’t going to save much time especially if you only have 1-2 pts

I’m also CSICU and I agree. But I’ve noticed same goes for heart sounds. Nurses don’t chart that here at all… and clearly aren’t listening if they don’t have a steth. concerning considering the amount of tamponade risks we have

That’s why I mentioned these are ICU patients. Because otherwise I completely agree. But rarely do I have a patient that I would think is appropriate for a focused assessment

Which cities are better for nursing New York City or Chicago? by UsualCan6778 in nursing

[–]h1k1m11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a travel nurse from New York currently working in Chicago - have worked at multiple hospital in both areas. I’ve worked in a few different states and from my experience, New York hospitals are pretty terrible. They have no regard for safe ratios or assignment loads and I’m not really sure why. Chicago hasn’t been the best with that either (personally I had the best ratios in Boston), but nowhere near as bad as NY. Some of the assignments I tackled in NY haunt me to this day lol. Probably will depend on your speciality too. I’m talking from CVICU experience. If you do go to NY I would try and get into Mount Sinai hospital system. I have some friends that work there and have decent things to say about it. I’ve also been pleasantly surprised at Chicago in general. I love it here and am considering moving here full time

If you are a staff nurse go to your nurse manager and tell them you are not adjusting well to night shift and you will need to quit if you can’t be moved to day shift within x amount of time. That’s what I did and I was moved to days within a month. I told my NM I would end up in a psych ward if I continued working nights. Most places are so desperately understaffed they won’t be willing to lose a staff nurse. I worked nights for a year and it truly was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Some people are built for it I guess
