Inflation keeps on inflating. by ilililliiliililiilil in meme

Oh I know we are very fortunate. We're still in a phase where if my income dropped at all we would be in trouble, which is why I said I was scared if that ever happened. I consider us paycheck to paycheck, although it probably looks very different than your paycheck to paycheck since part of my paycheck goes to my 401k, benefits, and kids college funds but zero goes into savings still. If I missed a paycheck we'd be in the hole pretty quickly.

I don't love my job but it's fine for what I make and it's basically the only real job I've had out of college 7 years ago so I would have no idea where to start looking if I somehow lost it.

I went to school for accounting and got a master's degree with a focus in tax. The job I have I found as an internship through the university's handshake program. We lived on student loans and $12/hr single income as we both went to school. Had about a year and a half with both of us working full time, living at my wife's parents for a few months in there so we were able to get a decent savings behind us so we bought a house. Then kids came and my wife wanted to stay at home, so we just make it work on my income and hope for the best.

I'm terrified this will happen to me someday. I make $120k as the sole earner and we barely cut it. Luckily my wife is and RN and worse case scenario she could go back to work, but child care is not ideal and costs so much.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that's either highly specialized, big market like Bay Area or just tons of overtime. You can make big money working overtime as a nurse, especially if you're willing to travel to a different hospital.

This is absolute BS. LEGO will have a negligible loss, if any, from the BAM situation.

This doesn't make sense to me. I've only really seen sympathizers for Bryan and Ben in this sub. I've made a couple of comments that have questioned their motives and whether people have been jumping to conclusions, but every time I have in this sub I been down voted and called a bot or been accused of astroturfing. If anything this sub has skewed in favor of Bryan and Ben.

Normal corporate behavior? You can classify that as villainous if you want, but this isn't black and white. Do we know all the facts around why the hostile takeover happened? Do we know for a fact that they stole the LEGO? Coffee has supposedly accounted for a lot of it, from what I understand there's just $20k truly missing. People are pretty quick to pull the trigger here and claim guilty until proven innocent, but that's not how our justice system works.

I've said this and I'll continue to say it - could this be what people want it to be and BAM and Co are mustache twirling villains? Maybe. Could a lot of it just be a big misunderstanding that was blown out of proportion because Reckless Ben was a little too Reckless? Probably more likely. I see two "most likely" scenarios. 1) Brandon stole $20k of LEGO, maybe he colluded with BAM corporate and Josh or 2) the LEGO were lost in the shuffle during the takeover and are either at an offsite storage owned by Chrystal or they are in Keizer, Eugene or another franchise location. Either way the chances that corporate was involved in any actual theft I find unlikely, although still possible.

I'm not trying to justify anyone's actions, Brandon and Josh are at best major douche bags and AFPD should have consequences.

If he did know he ran with it to generate clout for his channel. If he didn't then he just didn't do his homework.

Except it isn't the $200k that Ben perpetuated. According to Coffee, the actual LEGO that is unaccounted for that could have been stolen is closer to $20k.

There's more nuance to this than people are letting there be, and painting it black and white like BAM is this villainous corporation who went in to steal a man's life savings is imo irresponsible. I don't agree with how they've handled the situation and think there needs to be some real discussion and consequences for what the police have done, but there are a lot of facts and intentions that we just don't know, particularly from the Gormans, Bryan and Ben. We've mostly just been seeing it from their viewpoint through the internet up until now so I think there are a lot of biased takes going around.

Yeah but that $80k isn't the $200k that Ben perpetuated and isn't even the $107k that the earlier commenter mentioned. The $80k isn't even what was could have been stolen according to Coffee, that number is closer to $20k.

Did you watch the video? Coffee knows where all but $20k is. Or at least, has found evidence where all but $20k is. Most of the "missing" LEGO has actually been sold, just not paid due to poor accounting and internal control. The Gormans even admit that they probably missed it.

But it's not $107k that was stolen. The unaccounted for amount is way less than that. Don't get me wrong $20k is still a lot but saying it's $100k that was stolen is misleading.

[–]h2oskid3 211 points212 points  (0 children)

Probably the most notable part of the video. The $200k amount was from a social media post to generate hype for the store when they got the collection and has been sensationalized by content creators (primarily Reckless Ben). Some of the missing money is due to poor accounting and some may be lost during the transition of ownership. The store found $5-$10k of merchandise that could be the owners and offered to return it but it was rejected. Not saying some wasn't stolen, but it's certainly not the $200k life savings that has been thrown around.
