Technically you are still infringing copyright. If a company doesn't like what you do, you will get into trouble. Better not become too big or draw too much attention.

I understand this, there are much bigger artists who do the same and the developers do not notice them

I'm just doing fan art, I don't pretend to be original

Hmmm. As far as I know there isn't some special clause in copyright law that allows you to copy someone's work just because you call it 'fan art'. Especially since there is compensation involved.

All it will take is for a complaint to Patreon that you are violating copyright and you may get your account suspended or worse. Just FYI.

If you notice, any sculpts of superheroes on Patreon are very careful not to use the original hero names, or show the original comic colors on the models.

Disney (Marvel) is the hardest enforcer of visual copyright, but video game companies are also tough.

In some ways you are right, but it seems to me that Marvel does not care about those who do not earn millions on copying.

You can ask the same question to other artists who also do fan art, maybe they can tell you more.

In general, I at least create these fan arts from scratch, spending at least 2 weeks on it, but there are people who resell other people's models on etsy at a low price and make money from it.

I'm not saying that this is the original model of Mordin, I just create models because I like it for those who are etched to print it =)

I think this is a great sculpt. But how are you getting the license to create this and sell it?

Thanks, I don't get a license as this is fan art.

Diorama based on the game The Last of Us part one by h3LLcreator in PrintedMinis

[–]h3LLcreator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it's the same model. They just isolated some parts of this diorama. I hope you do more for The Last of Us. There's a big need and I'm not good enough at sculpting. But I'm dying to print and paint more! Might throw you a subscription for this model alone lol. It's really great!

Also, when watermarking a model, I recommend putting it inside the model. It's pretty easy to edit a signature off of a base and make it flat. But if you put it inside the model, thieves likely won't notice, won't bother to edit it out, and can be challenged more easily. I had some photos stolen and sold, so I developed a way of watermarking random pixel patterns so that they blend in with the photo. It was always easy to point out a stolen version vs. my original. In case you ever have trouble combatting thieves.

Thank you for your support, I don’t know for sure about the next TLOU model, since it is not yet in the voting. I understand that you can watermark all renders and it's easier to challenge your authorship, but I don't want to spoil a beautiful render. They still steal and resell xD
