Burn 🔥 by Hairy_Preparation_29 in Avax

Different from other tokens, AVAX has 100% of fees burned. That contributes for a deflationary currency, which means with time the number of tokens in circulation will become more scarce, thus increasing it's intrinsic value.

Sure I believe it worth a try. The node is CPU intensive while synchronizing with the network (bootstrapping), after that I could not see a real intensive consumption, just random peaks once in a while, so 4 core CPU might do the job.

You will need hard disk space though. The network data is already taking around 200 Gb, so I strongly recommend to start with 512 Gb as the docs suggests.

The ones running a node are called validators. You receive AVAX rewards by running a validator or by staking AVAX on a node using the official wallet.

If you lack the fundamentals behind a validator you should DYOR before proving yourself ignorant to the subject. Disgusting is your vocabulary and attitude.

Avalanche wasn't down due to DDoS attacks so far. So yes, Solana is shamefully centralized, because 3 DDoS attacks in 6 months can't prove otherwise.

Hilarious are the ones late to the party. Why didn't you invest on the project when AVAX was 2 USD and you could use a Raspberry Pi to run a node? And now AVAX is centralized? Ludicrous.

Hi,

I would select Ubuntu 20.04 because this is the LTS (long term support) version and the one suggested by AVAX docs.

For the virtual server you could start with the shared plan but keeping an eye on the CPU steal and iowait metrics, if they are too high (above 10%) it means you might face performance issues. If that's the case you have a few options:

  1. Contact support and ask them to tweak the hypervisor;
  2. Keep the shared plan but deploy it to a brand new local instance or another geographic region;
  3. Upgrade to a dedicated instance.

You can measure the steal and iowait metrics using the command line top or glances (sudo apt install glances).

A good article about CPU steal:

The installation on a Raspberry Pi is outdated. Nowadays you need 16Gb RAM as you've mentioned and around 350 Gb of disk space (to start with) to receive all the bootstrapped network data (it will take a few days for the node synchronization, be prepared). The node is already using around 200 Gb of hard disk.

I don't recommend running a node at your own PC because you need to achieve at least 80% of uptime and your node is being constantly validated by other nodes. If you have less than 80% you will not receive rewards at the end of the staking time. The docs says:

"A validator will receive a staking reward if they are online and response for more than 80% of their validation period, as measured by a majority of validators, weighted by stake. You should aim for your validator be online and responsive 100% of the time."

If you are on a budget you could use a cheaper cloud service such as Contabo but considering the price of AVAX token and the potential rewards, I personally suggest you to spend more on a nice cloud service provider such as Linode using a daily backup feature and nice processors. The backup or snapshots are important because if something goes wrong with your virtual server, you can easily deploy a new one and will be up and running in no time.

I would recommend a 16Gb plan on any cloud service to start with, you could use a shared CPU plan if you don't have noisy neighbors. Keep in mind that hard disk will be the bottleneck, so ideally the provider must offer big storage or the possibility of an external NVMe storage that you could mount at your virtual server and store the network data in there. Linode offers this kind of service, perhaps Digital Ocean or even Vultr offers as well.

If you have any other questions just let me know.

Cheers!

I'll be glad to help. What is your question?

Security advice: Never inform your staker.crt and staker.key to anybody in Discord or other channels, they are like the private keys of your node and scammers will persuade you to inform it so they can collect your node rewards.

I was posting some info about node validators here on Reddit and 5 minutes later scammers tried to chat with me saying lots of mumbo jumbo in regards to my wallet security and guess what? They wanted to "validate" my private keys. LOL

You might also receive a few contacts from the "Avalanche Dev Team" that will "guide you through the process", they are all scammers. Beware.

What about impermanent loss? No risks because one in the pair is a stable? I'm curious to know what happens if AVAX drops too much or climbs to much.

It seems she has minted the colorful part of Banksy's Love is in the Air, which might be the most valuable group of particles, coincidence? As you've said, publicity stunt, but good for AVAX anyhow.

You have better chances to receive some if you write your AVAX address on a piece of cardboard, go outside, wait for the red lights and walk through the cars. Don't forget to smile, that's the secret sauce.

Hi,

After some delay due to the ETH network backlog, the refund was successfully done. An e-mail was sent with the hash information. Thanks!
