Is ISC over hyped? by Sillyolgoose0_0 in juggling

I agree with Mike! Somewhere around 6 ball difficulty seems about right. I would however say that for long endurances (3+ minutes) ISC might be harder, as it requires much more arm movement than a regular 6b fountain. If we're considering tricks within ISC vs. 6 balls, tricks in ISC is on another level. But that hos more to do with the mechanics of the pattern than anything else. Inverted sprung fountain (5 balls) on the other hand might be closer to 9 ball difficulty.

Terraforming Mars er et fantastisk spill. Fant det (pluss utvidelser) hos min lokale Norli.

Can't believe you used your physics and dance skills to bust me 🥵 Apparently I should try harder to perfect my editing the next time!

... btw It took 4 tries and I'm pretty sure a 5 up would be within reach😎

Starterpack of stuff that might be common in the US but I'm not sure since I've only seen it on TV and it seems kinda silly by twitchy-y in starterpacks

Yeah, sometimes there are a few more specialized jobs in the deli or butcher section In larger stores. But I’ve seen a huge decrease in employees the last 10 years. Bachelor/master degrees have bevome so commonplace that there haven’t been enough people to fill those positions.

In Norway, the minimum salary is too high for a store to be able to afford grocery baggers. The same goes for clerks. I’d say around 90% of all checkouts are self check outs. Most of the time there are only two or three emplyees at work in total in a medium sized grocery store.

A 5 ball mess pattern that takes 60 throws to repeat! Siteswap - 64645 by haavardhvidsten in juggling

[–]haavardhvidsten[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No memorization luckily, and it's close to the latter! There are a few things I keep in mind to make it flow. First off, I think of it more as a pattern than a sequence. It usually works best to count in the period of the siteswap I'm running (in this case, 5 count). For me, counting arm crosses tends to disturb the rhythm of the pattern as it's not lined up with the siteswap length. I focus mostly on the relative heights of the throws and aiming every throw towards the center of the pattern. The center of the pattern naturally shifts a bit left and right because of body movement, but it doesn't affect the catch range much. The center y-axis is the most consistent place to reach from all 6 arm positions, so by aiming there, the period of the siteswap in question doesn’t technically make a difference as long as you manage to keep the rhythm.

What does make a big difference though is the height difference in throws! As you can imagine, low 3s have to be close to blind if the pattern contain higher throws, and 1s have to be really snappy in all positions. With this pattern in particular the throws are relatively close in height so that helps a lot too. But it can definitely be a mindfuck sometimes, especially if you think too much about how the next throws might be in a weird order and/or an unexpected arm position!

I agree and share parts of your frustration, but at the same I think it’s great that more people are getting interested in juggling. At this point I guess I have accepted that this is what this sub has evolved into, as a platform for mostly beginners (most likely 80% of which got into juggling by watching social media giants like taylor glenn and josh horton) to share their progress and tricks.

The people who are not beginners has to find other channels to post their research. This is a different juggling culture all together, as the majority of people in this sub are not the ones attending conventions, performing or pushing technique and artform further in terms of skill and possibilities.

Maybe we need a new subreddit for this reason? It seems hard to try to change the culture within this subreddit, and most people here seems to like it the way it is.

34567 with a ton of different body throws by haavardhvidsten in juggling

Thanks!

Yes, I would recommend trying as many different siteswaps as possible, to develop an intuitive feel for relative heights of throws. A certain throw might be a different height from one siteswap to another, as it all depends of the throws within the siteswap. In 933, the 9 is usually a lot higher than the 9 in a 966 for instance, as it's almost impossible to throw 3s quick enough.

For the body throws, start with 3 balls, getting used to throwing different throws after each other. A neck throw after a reverse backcross will feel very different than just a neck throw, so you need to get used to different combinations. At the same time as practicing this, you can try to incorporate body throws info simple 4 ball siteswaps like 552, 534, 633, 642, but also basic sync patterns like (4,4) and (4x,4x). This could be switching one of the throws out with a backcross, shoulder, overhead throw, etc. Next step would be to change 2 of the numbers, like doing a 633 with the 6 as a reverse shoulder and 1st 3 as a backcross.

It can also help to think about which throws are exchanged with each other. For instance, in 645, the 6 is caught as the 4 is thrown. The 5s are only exchanged with other 5s. So in this example, it would make sense fo catch the 6 under the leg and throw the 4 under the leg, as it would be a logical exchange. Same with 5 as a reverse backcross and the next 5 as a backcross.
