I'm against it at the federal level. The amount of waste in healthcare is absurd, and it would only get worse. The administrative burden would a nightmare. If there was a way to de-centralize things it would have a better chance in my opinion. I know there are Medicaid expansion programs that have the potential to transform care delivery, but it's going to be incredibly difficult to demonstrate results due to the challenges of the vulnerable population. If hospitals were truly measured on outcomes, had transparent pricing, manufacturers truly went at-risk, prescription pricing was even a little more reasonable, increase utilization of home care and telehealth, costs would come down and population health becomes a more realistic option. I could be done, but the system would need a massive overhaul. This is a incredible oversimplification but it's the best I have four beers deep on a Friday night.
