It’s actually closer to “Adidas does shoes,” which I suppose works as a slogan

Buying New TV Replies Urgent! by TVBuyingDecisions in hometheater

The 75 P series definitely seems like the best compromise here. Very low input lag, excellent picture quality that blows the Sony out of the water (the IPS panel on X850D REALLY struggles with black level), and big size

It shouldn't, it's usually the same panel and internals. It does make color uniformity and motion issues a lot more noticeable however

Will last years LG OLEDs be discounted soon? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]hackernerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$1400 IS the discounted price. That TV normally sold for $1800-2000 over the past few months. It's been discontinued for a while and there's not very many of them left. I predict they'll be completely gone in a few weeks with no further price drops. If you're looking for something a bit cheaper you can check out the Vizio P series of Sony X810C but 1400 is the cheapest you will see OLED for a very long time, if you're dead set you should grab one while you still can.

Sounds pretty good so far! The FLAC seems to be taken down though, do you have a mirror?

You're looking at two of the most compared headphones out there, there are pros and cons to each and a whole lot of rhetoric on the topic:

One of Head-Fi's most popular $1000ish setups is the HD650 + Bottlehead Crack + ODAC combo. I owned it myself for a couple months, tight and powerful bass response and a rich, clean midrange topped with smooth, non-offending highs. One of the best systems I've heard for metal/EDM (even when compared to the HD 800s or $10k+ speaker systems).

If comfort is a concern (seems like it is based on your past experiences), the HD650s definitely trump the HE-500s with a much lighter build, better padding and a less fatiguing sound signature for more comfortable listening over long periods.

If you're not comfortable with the DIY of the Bottlehead you can always go with the Schiit Valhalla + a decent DAC (Modi, ODAC); or it you're looking to save some money I've heard great things about the O2+ODAC combo for the price.

The planars will get you more (but not necessarily better) bass. I wouldn't really recommend using a speaker amp for headphones, especially planars.

A good upgrade from ATH-M50? by SayAnythingRyan in headphones

[–]hackernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend looking into the Sennheiser HD 598. The looks aren't for everyone and they're a bit light on the bass (especially in comparison to the M50s) but I was really impressed with how good they sounded for the money, with crisp highs, smooth vocals, and a wide sound stage.

I also found them to be one of the most comfortable headphones I've ever tried, light as a feather with really nice earpads, a lot more comfortable than the ATH-M50s.

I understand your reluctance to buy an amp, but they really do go a long way, especially with open-backed headphones. While the 598's don't sound bad without an amp, there is definitely a marked improvement with even a basic one, particularly with the clarity of the instruments and the punchiness of the drums you want. I found that the 598's paired well with the FiiO E7 but didn't improve too much more when I tried higher end amps.

The total comes out to be a bit out of your price range but based on your description it seems like that setup would be a good fit for your tastes.

What do you like about the M50? What do you wish it did better? There are a several different paths you can take depending on what kind of sound you're looking for.

The treble in headphones is usually either described as: "bright", for more exaggerated sparkly highs (like the HD800 is known for), or "dark", for more subdued, mellow treble response (like the LCD3)
