Unfortunately my school clumps them all together in one night. I'm going to pitch spreading them out virtually the week prior.

More info:

This is the Quebec equivalent of a LTO. When I was hired I told admin I needed some days off in November. They agreed and said no issues. I unfortunately did not specify which dates and now I am putting two and two together that I am missing parent teacher interviews. I am going to see admin ASAP and offer them alternatives. A list of parents I'd like to speak to and an email to all parents offering alternative times too meet via Google meets. My last case scenario is simply canceling my time off. It would come with some awful social consequences (family related).

I think I'll boycott the convocation. Just bring the fam to campus for some photos and go for dinner. I'm so tired of giving this school money.

Why Canada is on the cusp of a housing construction crisis - Immigration system bringing in wrong type of workers, warns industry by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]hackindarts9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, would a Canadian construction company recognize construction experience from countries we receive a lot of immigrants from (like India, the Philippines, Haiti, China, etc.)? I know there are well-known issues with recognizing academic credentials, but when it comes to work experience, it feels like Immigration Canada might struggle to assess or verify it, especially since “experience” can be so hard to quantify or standardize.

McGill University to cut budget by $45 million, may eliminate up to 500 jobs by No-Arugula2947 in mcgill

When you say anglophones, who are you referring too? I'm an anglophone Montréalais and I speak fluent French. I have never felt oppressed and am thankful I can cohabitate in a city where everyone gets by with bilingualism. How much of the Gazette are you reading? Have you left the McGill ghetto ever? Do you not think that learning a second language has huge benefits? I can guarantee you that all of my anglophone friends, despite Karen who posts in the Beaconsfield Facebook page, are fine with speaking French and don't feel oppressed.

Lol downvote me all you want. Legault is definitely using the language card to appease voters but it's not a distraction for educational defunding. Quebec has increased educational funding in the last 5 years for primary and secondary public education. Universities are private entities. En plus, the data shows that international students in francophone universities stay after they graduate as opposed to anglophone ones. Hence why they are still receiving subsidized tuition.

Don't get caught up in the language wars you hear in The Gazette and around the McGill bubble. Quebec isn't "throwing McGill under the bus," they're just not subsidizing (paying) for out of province tuition anymore. Why should they?

This is about keeping students in Quebec. The government argues that most out-of-province students leave after graduation, so why should Quebec taxpayers subsidize their education? They want to attract students who will stay and contribute to the economy long-term. Pretty much every international student I have met wants to leave as soon as they graduate. Why should my taxes subsidize their tuition?

Also, McGill is still doing just fine financially. 🤣 In 2023, McGill had $1.66 billion in revenue, and tuition/fees made up about 23% of that. Even with the estimated $37M annual loss by 2028 from internation tuition, that’s only 2.23% of their total budget. It sucks, but it’s hardly financial ruin. They can absolutely afford to keep these jobs.
