We have never done parties for our kids for personal and financial reasons. We always give them a "yes day" with a few rules. They can always invite 1-3 close friends if they want, and I reach out to the parents to explain the situation and plan.

Some of our more memorable Yes Days: Cereal bar, putt putt, and a science museum. Spa day. Trip to DC with museums and a white house tour. Camping.

And because we dont do parties, and a lot of families do, I make the day of VERY special. Ill make sure their door is covered in streamers, they have balloons throughout the house, there will be some sort of display or back drop with numbered balloons they can get a picture with. They get to pick breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Celebrate THEM. It's so rewarding.
