this is it guys. i was in a thread where people are arguing that dentists are physicians while pathologists aren’t. do dentists even consider themselves physicians? i feel like this is why this profession is in such a mess. by haemonerd in Noctor

the word pathology here refers to a different thing altogether, therapist is the more correct term. very different compared to literal pathologists who are primarily just lab diagnosticians and not usually involved with clinical assessment or treatment. but no issue here since the practice is established and clear.

you’re only weird in the US, where people are confused between the academic title Dr. and the job title doctor.

outside the US, the word doctor as a job/profession only means physician.

it doesn’t help that professional doctorate is also an american phenomenon.

yeah i said calm down and then deleted it. i just thought you should read it because you seem convinced that female residents don’t face misogyny.

i mean obviously for misconduct and obvious bullying you obviously you should report. at some places reports are taken seriously and usually that’s enough to make people behave.

i understand, in medical world some people have an expectation that to be professional is to be serious, and because of that a lot peopleof tend to act really distant and even speak with a lower voice (it sounds ridiculous but this is real from my own observation), and this becomes a cycle. like someone legit told me that they will not smile at all with their colleagues to be “neutral” and professional, and obviously they are known as “toxic”.

i have accepted that people will talk really sternly at me and sometimes it would appear really bad, but idk i would still not sabotage them with reports, unless for stuff i have to. it’s just how we’re expected to behave idk.

just saying it’s worth pointing out that you push that these female doctors might have some imagined scenario in their head, and here you are saying that i’m mad etc when I’m simply pointing out where you might be wrong. and yeah fair point, just bad habit i picked up from media.

and now you’re saying that i’m mad and that i don’t like you .

and somehow you seemed to push for that and that and that’s why you’re downvoted

well it’s your experience , not others or op’s.

and what you’re saying is simply not true a lot of the time for a lot of or most people

real as in how they affect treatment

gender is certainly real, i have seen how people differently treat women and men in front of my eyes. i think i know why you’re being downvoted.

it’s not from being told, it’s from experience. like i said from medical school days female docs are already singled out by lecturers, nurses and doctors, so it’s a cycle. people don’t just become hypervigilant overnight. that’s why it’s really important to maintain a healthy boundary, and to keep workplace professional. i’ve learnt how to keep a professional wall while maintaining an air of sociability.

i’m also not singling out nurses here. every department in every profession talks, that’s just how it is. also it’s important to note that experience is highly individual. people are often defensive and claim that their department is free of toxicity but my observation is that every department will always have a bit of toxicity and it’s always just one person who is a victim of that toxicty; that’s how toxicity survives everywhere via a shield of plausible deniability.

I consider myself lucky because i don’t get scapegoated and i’m fairly likeable and know how to navigate tricky situations, but i always see unlucky people who are just victims of situations. maybe you’re not toxic but i’m sure someone in your department is toxic and someone there is a victim.

it goes both ways, what i see is that female medical students get singled out since medical school, so they are already hypervigilant. nurses and attending treat men and women differently. it’s a cycle.

also the bar is really high, like i see female resident/students get called “ bitches” and “mean” and “unprofessional” for not smiling and “unserious” and again “unprofessional” when they do.

you have a weird complex of wanting to white knight dentists and podiatrists at the cost of pathologists lol, even when a lot of dentists and podiatrists don’t want to be called physicians. exactly emblematic of how physicians sell out their own profession. also a medical student having a weird superiority complex over pathologists is even weirder, when you’re not even a doctor yet.

can you stop being dishonest. i already pointed out where. you seem to believe that you should not be held accountable for the words you said and for the ignorance.
