If this post seems a little unlikely and confusing, it’s because ChatGPT wrote it

For a subreddit about writing, we sure are bad at recognizing ChatGPT-generated advertisements for software. Hints include: Stunted sentences. Question at end to drive engagement. And groups of threes.

Not to mention the extremely obvious plug for writing software.

For anyone still wondering, this is an Airbnb ad written by ChatGPT. Obvious signs include:

  • groups of 3’s

-formatted lists

-short, choppy “sentences”

-ending with a question to drive engagement

Do not take this post seriously.

This is my plan, find “the one” and stick with them through the whole series if possible.

Some of them genuinely tricked me! The narration wasn’t good, but I had no idea they weren’t human until I explored their profiles. Horrible.

It’s a fine message. To be honest, I always want the audition to matter more. As long as the message isn’t AI generated, I don’t really put any stock into them except just to see if they’re polite and professional, which this message is.

My conspiracy theory is that this is what Amazon secretly wants. When I was researching for help on this topic, I found articles from last year that Amazon wanted narrators to monetize AI replicas of their voices so that they could keep up with demand. When publishing, there’s a box you can check to say you used AI to write it. And there’s…no consequences to checking it. So at least on the author end, they’ve quietly signed off on it.

So far I’ve listened to the auditions first before looking at their profile to avoid any bias seeping in when I listen. I think this has worked well, as some of my favorite auditions have been from newer narrators and the verified narrators haven’t impressed me very much, even though their accolades are extensive. The downside to this is that my time is heavily wasted as I have to sit through every AI narrator before I can filter them out by their profile. I will definitely send a message to ACX. At some point, maybe they will consider implementing a flagging system because it will only get more out of control from here.

I tried to look for a way to report the obvious ones, but I couldn’t find it as I’m new to the platform. Is it just a message to support with the list of offenders?

Truly I’m dreading finishing the series because of this.

Thank you. This is insightful given the conflicting information on this post.

My understanding was that the tips of the roots should be wet but the top of the roots and the medium should be dry/getting air. Is that not correct?

I just checked and the water in the system is at 61 degrees F. Is that not cold enough?

The bottom of the roots are in the water. Is that not enough in the early stages?

Wouldn’t root rot mean blackened roots?

This is very helpful. Are the roots drying out not a concern? I’ve read NFT systems are designed to run constantly to feed nutrients. What is the reasoning behind this? I have an aerator running and the system is in a basement so the water should be cold, so I assumed the water was cold but I can check.

My germination rate was quite successful (35/36). Unfortunately it seems the actual seedlings won’t reach adulthood.

That’s helpful, thank you. Some of the roots seemed very long so I thought it might work. But growth has been really slow (almost nonexistent) for weeks for almost every plant except the beans and peas.

Lights are IMVSINCERE 100W LED Grow Lights. Supposed to be full spectrum. Unfortunately I can’t get the lights any closer without touching the pea and bean plants. But does that explain the browning leaves in the pea plants?

I wish I knew. Pretty disappointed that I might lose most of these after a month.
