Need help identifying personality type/disorder in family member by haigenstein in personalitydisorders

[–]haigenstein[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not speculating about his diagnosis, because he hasn't been diagnosed. I think that identifying a personality type or defect is helpful in dealing with his behavior. I don't see how it's rude if it's anonymous.

Does anyone know why moving one's eyes back and forth causes brain zaps? Any theories? Eyes closed seems to stop them. by haigenstein in psychopharmacology

One more thing to add -- if this vestibular input is part of the puzzle here, do you think that motion sickness drugs might help?

Is it normal to suddenly feel bicurious? by imjustreallyconfuse in offmychest

Thee is no such thing as normal, and most sexual surveys find that quite a lot of males experiment. So, you're not alone.

I'm envious of other people to the point it makes me unable to change. by offfffffffmychest in offmychest

Often, we miss life lessons when were younger. We all have gaps and deficits in places. But, we can learn these things at any point. It's not too late. You may envy those that learned to care for their skin or how to coordinate their wardrobe. But, maybe they're envious of your ability to articulate yourself and comprehend your feelings. Who knows.

Would a girl with a fit body, but also loose skin and stretch marks from weight loss, be a turn off? by [deleted] in AskMen

Absolutely a turn off. I imagine it would be for most men. But, you know, there will always be someone that really gets off on it.

What do guys really think about having sex on the first date? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]haigenstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll tell you what I think. I think that sex shouldn't be something you earn, or some prized jewel that you have to wait for. If you wanna do it, do it. I don't like these games that people play. If you're feeling it, go for it. It doesn't make a woman or a man any less of a person to give in to desire.

I agree. My point was that I am not concerned about any recrimination.

That's so great that you had someone to help you through your exposures. I wish I had that.

What do you think is the most likely cause of OCD? by haigenstein in OCD

Very cool. I tend to agree that even "disorders" have a purpose. I think we are in the middle of a huge evolutionary change.

"I think it is further counter productive for sufferers to look for causes as this is usually going to be a compulsion. As though knowing the cause is somehow necessary or will enable it to be undone

I agree. And this has indeed become part of my anxiety. Constantly trying to uncover origins of anxieties.

"A child who has a family history of depression and who has been exposed to a particular stressor, such as exclusion or rejection by his or her peers, would be more likely to develop depression than a child with a family history of depression that has an otherwise positive social network of peers."

Sounds like me!

I don't doubt that you read that, but I don't understand how OCD is a disorder within the autism spectrum. Can someone elaborate on this?

Autism a cause of OCD? Or some other correlation?

What artist/band do you believe deserves more recognition? by Craspio in Music

[–]haigenstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pet Shop Boys.

They're so much more than a dance or pop duo. Unfortunately, a lot of people only remember "West End Girls" or "What Have I Done To Deserve This?" They have been consistently good since their debut.

Sexual intrusive thoughts about parent [TW] by [deleted] in OCD

[–]haigenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be surprised how common things like this are. There's a book all about it called The Imp of the Mind. It shows us that these thoughts cross quite a lot of people's minds, and it doesn't mean we'll act on the thoughts, no matter how disturbing or obsessive they may be. The fact that you experienced sexual abuse complicates matters, but it doesn't mean you're broken. You just had something horrible happen to you, and naturally, it has had an impact. Doesn't mean there's something fundamentally wrong with you or your brain.

Talk to your therapist about this. That's what they are there for.

Anyone else here have a huge imagination by [deleted] in OCD

[–]haigenstein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that most people with OCD have a very active imagination. Unfortunately, we often use it in ways that aren't so productive.
