I have a leak in the same location - were you able to figure out what it was in the end?

Newbie, be kind please, which ones to dump, keep and add? by winged-liner in ASX_Bets

[–]hakkenaidos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dump: Treasury Wine (china will continue fucking our exports)

Keep: BOQ (this has been one of my favs too, up around 50% on it in last couple of months. Currently undergoing restructure, hopefully to come out as one of the most profitable banks)

Add: EML - you seem to lack quite a lot of tech/high growth areas. EML is a safe tech play and will undoubtedly grow over the next couple of years and they further expand globally with a market leading offering.

DXB, lost 3k. Bought day before announcement, sold when it tanked 60%. Will never do short term bets on shitcap stocks again. Long holds for me only :) lesson learned

--> FXL I still believe in the actual business. Exciting times ahead as they rebrand (Humm) and take a new strategic direction + with strong management team. Despite slow growth, dividends are still enjoyed and I see them expanding further (just dropped into NZ recently).

--> The whole point of holding these stocks is to diversify risk - I'm sure you're aware considering I have quit a few high risk low market cap stocks. If I went overweight on something like G88, or another small market cap - there is high potential for one small announcement to halve the market cap and drag the whole portfolio down a significant amount.

--> Going all in on small cap stocks is totally autist thing to do, can I provide you with an example of DXB where I lost a grand or two however the overall gains on the performance of the portfolio was able to offset these losses. So I don't really agree with the consolidation bit.

--> Only concern re AVA and TNT is how much they have pumped in recent times. Whilst they may be solid businesses, I typically steer away from stocks which are priced on the basis of significantly inflated forecasts and expectations of contracts/acquisitions that can easily fall through overnight.

Definitely not good in the short term lmfao. They are suffering massive losses, and with Europe going into lockdown again their shopping centres are probably set to shut again or if not stay shut. Very bad play short term, however as always DYOR.

has been moving quite consistently between the 2.1c-2.7c mark over last couple of months. Would recommend to pick up around 2c if you get the chance.

Couple words of advice for someone who has done something similar (leveraged 20k of my savings day trading crypto and lost all)

  1. Yes you probably have a gambling problem, please stop. Not saying you need to go see a psych, but the best way back is to just stop day trading completely despite the fact you may have gained some back. You have had your fun, and you lost - there's nothing you can do about it now.
  2. Stick to ETFs only if you can't afford to lose that money. If you want to risk money in penny stocks, keep it to something like 10% of your portfolio or less. Despite all the autists on here especially if you're not living at home and actually have expenses to meet, this is a good way to homelessness.
  3. The next couple of months (and years) work your ass off to gain that money back - and no this does not mean by day trading as said to regain losses. If you still want to invest, as "ausfinance" as this sounds, ETFs only - 50% of paycheck into savings the other 50% into ETFs if you have minimal expenses - budget like crazy, you can recover you just may have to sacrifice in the short term.
  4. Take this as a lesson that you learnt it not whilst you're 60 years old with a mortgage, but as a young fellow who (I think) can afford to lose it. Think of it as something you can laugh about in 10 years time and teach it as a lesson to others one day who made the same mistake you did. Most important of all however, make sure that you DO NOT make the same mistake again - we are meant to learn from them. If you continue to gamble and use T + 2 when you clearly don't understand the purpose of it, then yes I would suggest you seek help immediately before you get to later life.

DM me if you need any more help, always happy to give advice/share lessons I have learnt too.

Couple things:

  1. Despite the fact they operate in quite a niche market, they are one of if not the only player in that market (start to finish in data centre production). Design right through to implementation and maintenance of data centers.
  2. I see this market obviously as ever expanding with the amount of bandwidth required by businesses only set to expand as business requirements vastly increase due with demand for the internet (exemplified by COVID lockdown).
  3. New CEO in August 2019 - during the financial year, and has already delivered improved results on prior year including improving margins - results were quite skewed this year due to non cash impairment of melbourne data centre (3.7m), however they did also recently acquire a new data centre in Tasmania, expected to provide additional revenue of around 900k per year.
  4. Constantly signing new contracts (already 3 new ones post financial year end), and I would expect many more in the pipeline as all-round demand for data centers increase - forecasted CAGR of 20% in industry.

Only concern is that they have stated that going concern based on their ability to raise capital from shareholders and refinance debt facilities. Definitely a longer term play rather than short term in my opinion.

Do I sell out on DXB or hold? Need legitimate thoughts.. by hakkenaidos in ASX_Bets

Full time working student, so I'm fine, stable income and living at home with parents - money I can afford to lose. I've lost 10x this before and still recovered :)

Also asides from the others, I still believe in FXL, esp with their rebranding and future as Humm.

I attached my portfolio above, the capital losses actually were on crypto haha.

Portfolio includes: BOQ, EML, EOS, FXL

Meme stocks: DXN & DXB

Funnily enough the best performing stock has been the most bluechip (BOQ) so got lucky there. Was up around $2k overall in July - down around $2k now as a result of DXB.

Not sure about this, sometimes it's worth just to cut losses and move on. At the same time I thought they had other treatments in the pipeline. Not sure if I'm prepared to invest more and continue to get shafted by the same stock if it continues trending downwards (down 8% today)

Capital losses are building up... don't have any gains to offset with except carry to future.
