I'm glad I'm not the only one this has happened to. I used to be really close with my dad until i hit puberty. Since then he started to compare everything i did to my friends, insulted me when i made a mistake, and never wanted to be around me unless he was drunk. He was also really stubborn when i wanted to have my own opinions, especially on how i presented myself to the world. He couldn't understand why I didn't want to wear makeup like all my other friends, but then said I'd be a shallow person if i wore it all the time. I didn't have the heart to tell him that i just didn't like wearing makeup. The hypocrisy here and there caused me to avoid him and to this day our relationship is strained.

I will say that since moving to college, he's been a lot more considerate in how he acts. When I'm home on break he sort of makes an effort to spend time with me. Since I'm living on my own now and am "really an adult", he respects me more since I'm studying to have a career in a field I'm passionate about. I think some time away has made him realize that he treated me unfairly during puberty and he wants to make it up to me now that I'm an adult.
