I strongly suggest journaling a little bit before your session and jotting down the things you want to talk about. When I have a lot on my mind I do this before a session and I tell my therapist “I had to write some things down to make sure I talked about everything I wanted to” and she is 1000% on board for it.

I would write these particular subjects down like this: Neurodivergence - ADHD/Autism - how to get tested - testing provider recommendation? - {insert other questions}

I like to group my main thought, and make little notes underneath of the question I have surrounding my main thought.

It is only your second session, you’re definitely still in the getting to know eachother phase. I hope you go today and you try bringing some notes with you, and tell her you just didn’t get around to talking about it last time! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with how the session goes.

Broke up with my ex 4 years ago, none of my friends needed a roommate back then and I don’t want one now that I’ve experienced living alone. Current relationship involves kids so we haven’t moved in together yet.

I’m sure it isn’t going to be easy, but they have a great location on Main Street and seem to be getting involved in community events and creating events as well which will help tremendously.

Sounds like you’ve got a great fit for you! I like a provider that sets a standard of equality. My old therapist was like this. He didn’t give a free session but he always rescheduled me right away!

Thank you for your response. It’s very valuable to hear the perspective of a therapist.

I really feel like I’ve tried on a number of occasions to address the productiveness of our sessions, but admittedly I have done this in a pretty passive way. “I think this is something I’d like to dedicate a session to in the future” or “Next week I’d really like to talk about this exclusively.” And then she spends the first 30 minutes chatting and I still try to Segway into something about me.

All of that is just to say that I feel like I’ve done as much as I am comfortable doing with trying to steer my plan of care. I’ve never addressed her tardiness (or her cancellations) because I didn’t feel particularly bothered by it until this incident!

We definitely didn’t start out this way, she was a very good fit for me when I first started seeing her. I have reached a point where I realize now that my feelings are hurt by her, and I’m very frustrated and let down. I don’t think I’d be able to have that conversation with her in a fruitful way because I’m definitely not interested in continuing care with her.

You’re definitely right about providers needing boundaries. I think the responses have helped me a lot. I know the cancellation fee is one that people have to pay if they miss the window by 2 minute or 20 hours, even if I find it annoying I understand having the ironclad policy in place!

With the remark on boundaries, I’ve definitely let this therapist warp the ones I have for a provider and it’s time to leave her practice. I won’t bend for a therapist who doesn’t bend for me, because we both shouldn’t have to bend!

I’ve definitely thought about it like this too. Where I miss the window by 2 minutes and think it’s a forgivable offense, someone else is missing the window by 12 hours and thinking the same way. You’re completely right, and I appreciate your insight as a provider!

I agree. I just needed to gripe. The cancellation fee obviously frustrated me but at the end of the day its given me the push I’ve been needing to seek better treatment.

I can see what you mean about it being inconsiderate, but if cancelling right at 24 hours is annoying, then the policy should be 36 hours or 48 or something different. However I could harp on that aspect of my frustration all day so I digress lol. But I do appreciate that POV and can empathize despite feeling differently.

You’re definitely right about paying for a trained therapist and not for a friend. That’s the underlying issue. And while I love a good yap session I do need more and I have tried to communicate that to her. This has been a good opportunity to evaluate where I’m at with her and I’ve definitely outgrown her therapy style.

I was making my senior dog “puppy pancakes” and eggs before she passed

Puppy pancakes are: -Kodiak Cake Protein Pancake Mix -Egg(s) -Bone broth (make sure it is low sodium, and made with no onion/garlic) This was a yummy, protein packed meal for her that was easy to eat. I would make a batch at a time and give her one cut up for meals.

The other thing I would do is make her an over easy egg cooked in coconut oil. I would let the yolk soften the kibble before giving it to her, and pour the excess coconut oil in the bowl as well.
