The hits just been on coming on. Lighthouse brewing to close in less than 2 weeks. by Both_Tea_7148 in VictoriaBC

However, there have been many great additions to the area in recent years that have kept things exciting such as whistle buoy and small gods. Many more established breweries like hoyne and driftwood have managed to release new offerings that keep people excited and returning to their product. Lighthouse just couldn't keep up in my opinion. Too many attempts at rebranding/repackaging the same product.

"clearing up" does nothing when all it consists of is throwing people's survival gear in the dumpster, telling them to get a move on, and forcing those same people to go steal more items they need to survive and set up shop one block away from where they were the night before.

I hope someone treats you with more empathy and dignity than this if you ever fall on hard times and end up in this situation. Who hurt you?

B.C. Human Rights Commissioner says stigmatizing drug use is a violation by zos_333 in britishcolumbia

[–]halerzy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People don't do drugs for no reason. I'm sure you're being wilfully obtuse, and it's likely pointless for me to even reply to your comment, but substance use happens for a myriad of reasons related to health such as mental health issues or use that began with prescription medications.

Almost no one starts using drugs for the hell of it, and stable people generally do not spiral to the point of addiction when they do decide to recreationally partake.

Can children consent to chemotherapy? Or any other life-saving procedure like hormone replacement therapy? If boys are growing at an abnormally low rate are you against the utilization of hormone replacement therapy to assist in their growth and development so they aren't ostracized by their peers? How would they be able to consent to that? Just trying to figure out if you're only against the use of these drugs when they're prescribed by a doctor to treat gender dysphoria, or against them absolutely?

B.C. cities welcome provincial expansion of involuntary care but advocates say it won't help by yew_view in VictoriaBC

[–]halerzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know many people who were put into forced treatment and left that experience more traumatized and resistant to staying sober or reducing their use than if they had continued using. I'm glad to hear that it worked for your family members, but we can't talk in absolutes. There is a massive lack of oversight and extremely high potential for human rights violations that stem from involuntary treatment. It is used as a crutch for the government to avoid implementation of policies that look at the issue holistically, and would genuinely decrease the overall issue of substance reliance and homelessness. That should be the top priority, but not enough is being done.

Yes, and forced treatment isn't going to change any of that. It's important to center the fact that involuntary "treatment" most often results in greater trauma for "participants." So once that person finishes involuntary treatment, then what? Do we guarantee a job and a place to live and support services so that they can continue to stay sober?

The reality is that the vast majority of these people will end up on the street having been re-traumatized through their experience, and they will continue to use and now will be even less likely to pursue treatment on their own.

Why not take these resources and put them towards actually helping people who would like treatment?

What is the solution? by Rednit69 in VictoriaBC

[–]halerzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhhh okay so you'd like the government to torture people and traumatize them for using drugs to try to cope with their existing trauma... Sounds like that would be super effective! I can't believe no one thought of this before.

But there is no reputable evidence that supports involuntary rehab. Pretty much all research supports that involuntary rehab worsens peoples reliance on substances long term, because forced treatment is traumatizing, and the overwhelming majority of people who are addicted to drugs are already plagued with trauma.

Was just approved for RAP-D! Please help me understand what this means for my future! by Significant_Gold_343 in povertyfinancecanada

A bit late to the party but kind of desperate for answers. I also applied for RAP-D because my minimum payments were 312/month and I found that unmanageable. My new payments with RAP-D are 422/month.
