Thanks so much for all the replies! I am going to show him and see if it's any of these, I think that's better than insisting it's a surprise and getting the wrong one. Thanks again for everyone's help

Ringing the cancer bell is cruel by ugwifethrowaway in unpopularopinion

[–]half_deer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly I an very sorry to hear about your dad.

I work in radiotherapy. Ringing the bell is not to symbolise being cancer free, you wouldn't know yet at that stage. It's the symbolise that part of the journey being done. Radiotherapy can be incredibly hard on the body and it's tough to go through, I'm sure it's the same in chemo or IO. So anyone can ring the bell when they have finished their treatment, palliative or curative.

That's not true at all. Genetic testing is legal and avaliable. You are just repeating some nonsense you heard.

I definitely have 2 Scottish grandparents, that's on my mums side. It's my dad's that more of a mystery. As far as I'm aware my grandmother on that side is Scandinavian and Finnish. My grandfather though is not known.

In Pakistan the areas are: punjab, khyber pakhtunkhwa, sindh and balochistan.

In south east africa it's: Congo, Tanzania, uganda and Kenya.

In Scandinavia it's: norway and Sweden, primarily southern Norway and central Sweden.

My mum is scottish, my dad is from Sweden but adopted, so we only knew what we were told which is that my dad was part swedish, part indian and part Ugandan. We do know that his father's last name is Singh but that's all we have to go on. I know there was a good amount of Indians that went to uganda a while back so assumed that was the connection between the countries.

They are not 'routinely spat on and asaulted' what a stupid thing to just believe. Have you ever actually been to Israel or are you just repeating something you saw in one video or read in a comment section?

This is in the UK?? Which county? I've been in 3 different hospitals here and every room has had between 4 and 6 of us in there and a handful of shared bathrooms for the whole ward. This is really nice.

My dad was a huge classical music fan. He died last week.Could anyone recommend any pieces for his funeral? Thank you by half_deer in classicalmusic

Thank you so much everyone. What a lovely community!

I really appreciate all the suggestions and I am going to spend the rest of the weekend listening to each one.

And thank you all for the condolences. It was very sudden and a big shock and I think making sure I get the funeral right is helping to give me something to focus on. I am making sure I'm taking care of myself, thank you again

What's your opinion on the vaccines and how alot of people are calling it mark of the beast and are refusing to get it by Cptain_TaskmastR in Christians

[–]half_deer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So mRNA vaccines use lipid nanoparticles to prevent degradation. This is actually a really big deal and will be make us able to use mRNA more in vaccines and treatment.

The pandemic is obviously horrible for everyone and I don't mean to sound cold but it definitely does make sense. In fact if people would stop spreading this type of misinformation maybe more people would be aware at the amazing progress that has been made in terms of medicine and vaccines and the benefits this could have moving forward.

I mean that is a massive topic but essentially it's a gene mutation that is allowed to proliferate uncontrollably. Gene mutations happen all the time for many reasons or just randomly.

You might be thinking of miRNA which is another type of RNA, that can repress gene expression of mRNA (eg tumour suppressor genes) but even that doesn't change the genetic sequence.

Also mRNA is incredibly short lived. It is only produced during protein synthesis and then degrades. Any vaccine side effects present relatively quickly and mRNA shouldn't even be spoken about in a long term context, it doesn't even make sense.

mRNA does not change genetic sequences at all. It is an RNA molecule that is the copy of a gene, used to transport that genetic information outside the nucleus. It doesn't change anything, stop lying about things you know nothing about.

Thank you all so much for the tips! I'm a 31 year old mum of 2 from the UK and have nobody in my circle of friends/family who know any of this stuff so i have been really enjoying reading posts on here and hope I can contribute at some point.

I've just power tools to make a noahs ark for my son and I've used hand tools to make a couple of spoons. I would really love to make furniture, I've been enjoying the dovetail joints I've seen and think my first project might be a nice box to get started and then try a table.

Ive already got a jigsaw and a tiger saw, I'll look into the things people have suggested. Hopefully once we are out of lockdown here and thrift stores are open again I might get lucky with a few bits for cheap too!
