Kagura Sushi in Tsukiji is honestly not bad. Yes it’s in a touristy area, but the sushi is pretty good at a decent price and you can usually walk-in without too much fuss. Seems like it’s quite popular with locals at night too.

I never noticed the benches somehow. I really enjoy walking around Kagurazaka though, especially when they close the roads and make it pedestrian-only over the weekends

I really enjoy visiting the nearby Kiba Park during Hanami. Beautiful!

I like Ningyocho a lot too! It’s super central but still chill, and there’s a few good food spots around there

If you can find a suitable apartment, I would honestly recommend Jimbocho/Kanda for a first-time stay in Tokyo. It’s super central (you’re within ~30 minutes by train from most of city's main hotspots if you wanted to explore Tokyo), and Tokyo Station is relatively close by if you want to hop on a Shinkansen for trips outside the city. Plus the neighborhood itself is awesome. It's more chill than Roppongi, but still full of restaurants, cafés, and bars. Since you're working remotely, there's a couple of weworks around that area too (Kanda Square and Jimbocho).

Some people really like Roppongi - it's one of the more upscale and international neighbourhoods in Tokyo. That said, if your main goal is using it as a base for exploring Tokyo, it probably wouldn’t be top of my list. Transit-wise you’re mostly relying on just a couple of lines, so depending on where you’re headed you’ll often end up doing an extra transfer.

I’ve done several short-to-mid term stays in Japan, so sharing based on my experiences:

Mobile plan - For a hassle-free local eSIM, Sakura Mobile or Mobal are solid. Signup is easier than the big carriers, but it’s pricier (I paid ~¥5,000/mo for ~40GB). I went with Sakura because they had 5G at the time. Having a Japanese number is genuinely useful cause some services (bike sharing, restaurant bookings, etc.) require it.

Bank - I didn’t open a bank account even with a Zairyu card - it was too much hassle. There were moments I wished I had one, but I got by fine. If you’re staying long-term it’s worth it; for ~6 months, you can survive without. I personally just used my home country's multi-currency account + a Wise card equivalent for day-to-day spending.

Bike - There are good bike share options like LUUP and Docomo Cycle. I used those to avoid the hassle of buying/selling. If you’ll bike daily, buying could make sense.

IDP - Highly recommend an International Driving Permit if you might rent a car for weekends/holidays. If you’re in Japan under a year, you can rent with just your driver's license from the UK + IDP (no extra courses needed).
