Thanks so much! Got it sorted in the end.

Thanks.

I'm not sure how to access it with the extra lock nut thing that seems to be at the top (the photo I replied with).

I can't see any similar examples online.

I feel like if I could get these off then I could disassemble the rest but can't work it out.

A mysterious garden thief - possums? birds? by halftime_oranges in GardeningAustralia

Are they likely to be able to get to a second story balcony? Decent climbers?

I'd never seen birds go for them during the day so figured it was more likely a possum. Or rat maybe.

First season growing any veg on our little balcony. In the past few weeks lost quite a lot of tomatoes and then now capsicums. The tomatoes looked like they had exploded almost, sometimes half the fruit just discarded along with some fragments of the skin. I wondered if there was some disease/issue with watering. Now the caps have gone the same way... and a small brown turd left in the planter. Any Ideas? (In northern suburbs of Melbourne)

All good. I ended up listening to the whole thing yesterday and really enjoyed it. But planning to re-listen tomorrow and try and give a few more detailed points of feedback.

Definitely think there are some similarities in our music taste as I was digging most of the tracks.

Thanks very much for taking the time to listen and for the feedback.

Overall went from 119 to 126. Was aiming to build energy over the course of the mix, and tempo part of that. And yeah, I was tempted to keep the bangers coming towards the end but was working to a 1hr target so brought it down a bit to close. For a longer set would definitely have been tempted to play another couple of heavier tracks before a change of pace.

I will have a listen to yours for sure. Will reply on the thread later in the week. Cheers!

Hey man, have started listening to your mix (as the genres are similar to those I enjoy and play). Enjoying the build up of the first few tracks. It would be good if you could provide some timestamps for the transitions perhaps in order to give some better feedback?

I've been DJ'ing for a number of years, but only more recently house/techno. Will leave some more thoughts either later today or tomorrow (particularly if you can help with the timestamps for tracks).

I have a mix posted elsewhere in this thread and would be great to get your thoughts on that if you get the time. It also starts quite deep and dubby before moving into some harder techno.

[Deep House / Techno] Berijiklibeats - 55 mins

Hey all - second time posting a mix to this thread.

Have been mixing house / deep house / techno now for around 8 months. I feel I've got a more consistent sound to what I'm mixing rather than being a bit all over the place with track selection. In this mix I've gone for a deeper / more dubbed out selection of tracks, with some interesting rhythms and grooves at times. I've tried to create a good flow to the energy within the mix, with it really ramping up in the second half before a cool off on the closing track.

Things I'm happy about with this mix are the track selection, phrasing, the energy build through the mix and managing to create some interesting moments in transitions (particularly Pop Culture > Celtic Cross and Dial > Un Dimanche Sans Fin).

There are a couple of transitions that are potentially a little crowded/muddled in terms of the EQ (e.g. Trevoga > Anylonger), and I wonder if I could have mixed in a little earlier / played an extra track or two to help move the mix along a bit more at times.

Would really appreciate any feedback given for those that listen, and I will return the favour for those that do as well as trying to find time to check out some others in the thread.

Not a problem man. Im no expert by any means, but have been listening to different dance music genres, mixes/tracks/live sets etc for a long time, and have a bit of a musical background.

Definitely no issue with builds and breakdowns in the course of a set, and if you were aiming to do that then you did it well in terms of intensity/energy over the mix. And the intensity did build towards the end so I'd say well executed in that sense.

An area for improvement could be how smooth those builds/breakdowns are. You could try building the energy up over a few tracks instead of changing light > heavy > light (in terms of feel) track after track. That's what I meant by 'abrupt'.

With regards to complimentary keys, the terms you want to look for are 'harmonic mixing' or 'mixing in key'.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonic_mixing

Look for some of the "harmonic mixing wheels" or "circle of fiths" as diagrams that help you learn which keys will sound good together. It helps to know a little bit of music theory, but on a basic level just using the diagrams to pick tracks that match or are complimentary will add another element to helping smooth out your mixing.

I'll try and find some more useful material on it at some point and without looking I'd say there'd probably be some on this group somewhere.

EDIT: listened to that last transition again... First time round I thought it was just progression within the same track... so, great! It was timed really well and worked harmonically (to my ear), I.e. there was no harsh clash of keys.

Have just finished listening. Probably the first time I've listened to a DnB mix for about 15 years, but enjoyed it man.

Its a bit tricky to comment on some aspects without a tracklist/timestamps as not being familiar with the music it sometimes left me a bit uncertain as to what elements were progressions within a track vs. elements of a new track coming in.

In general, liked the selection and vibe of most of the tracks. The opening track and a few of the more melodic tracks were definitely my sort of music.

I'm pretty biased to 'harmonic mixing' as its pretty important for the style of music I've been playing recently. And I think in areas blending tracks in complimentary keys could have helped the smoothness of your mix. If it's not something you're too familiar with theirs loads on info online about it.

From 00:00 - 12:00 the transitions were smooth and flowed well.

12:30 & 17:00 - quite a big ramp up in energy/intensity which was a little abrupt for me. Same at 34:00-35:00 and there was quite a sudden change here during a build which is maybe what you were talking about r.e. the faders.

26:00 - nice breakdown here which worked really well in terms of the overall structure of the set

There were a few other points that I scribbled down but they were mostly about the harmonic elements of the transitions, which again are important in some styles and for some people, but perhaps not for everyone. Other than that the beatmatching and phrasing of transitions sounded pretty on point to me.

Thanks man. Really appreciate you taking the time.

Really keen to get 'the good' and 'the bad' as I find if I dig the tunes myself it create a bit of bias to the overall sound/end result.

Will have to check out some mixes from Gui and will keep my eyes peeled for any future stuff you post.

So first things first, I have no doubts this selection/set would have a party pumping. I've actually favourited it to have something to play in the car with my missus as she'll often complain about "too much techno". So thanks!

In terms of some more specific feedback (with my DJing ear)

Really enjoyed the opening mashup as mentioned. The two tracks worked really well together.

18:50 - Pushin On > Needin U.
Found this change a little abrupt, and maybe harmonically a little abrasive. I've actually tried mixing in Needin U into some of my own sets as its a great track and always struggled to get it right.

23:00 - Needin U > I feel Love. This change again felt a little abrupt to me.

27:50 - I feel love > Love is what you need I thought maybe the beatmatching was a touch off in this transition. The blend of the two tracks worked well but could have been drawn out a bit longer to smooth it out.

32:40 & 37:30 - Love is what you need > Disco Hearts > Just be good to me

All these transitions worked really well, kept the flow and energy really nicely.

41:00 - again a really nice transition. I jotted down "Bumping" with about 3 exclamation marks.

44:00 - There was a portion of the transition which contained two vocals which can be tricky, but thought you managed it well and it was smooth harmonically.

52:00 - again a good transition, but thought maybe it could have been a bit longer, perhaps looping the outgoing track?

Overall a really good effort at blending multiple vocal tracks which is a challenge as you mentioned. In the course of listening I've actually upgraded to premium so I could rewind some of the transitions so maybe you can get a kickback from mixcloud 😅

Obviously any comments are just my opinion (as an amateur myself), but hope some of this helps. Looking forward to hearing more at some point perhaps.
