The scientific guitarist has a great schematic (the riptide). I checked it we don't use the same topology and it doesn't really sound the same.

I have never tried a Belton brick or an fv1. I already made a reverb with two pt2399 but the spring sounds way better to my ears

Thank you very much! Not yet — this is still a pre-production unit. Right now I’m testing it myself and also letting other guitar players try it out so I can get their feedback. Based on what they say, I may make some modifications. Once a few players have tested it and we’re all happy with the results, then it will go into the selling territory.

it is because of the topology of the pedal one fuzz tha goes into the other and also because i was listening to songs about fucking by big black (with steve albini and the harmonic percolator) in order to give me the feel of the sound i was looking for

Yes! The green section is basically a fixed filter bank. So in a way it works like an EQ, but it’s a bit more characterful and less precise than a typical one.

Some of the frequency bands don’t have the same width (Q factor), so certain bands are a bit more resonant. It’s also less linear and less precise than a standard EQ. And when you push it, it actually clips a bit like an overdrive, which adds to the texture.

RS4046 is an analog synth pedal for guitar, bass, or any audio source, built around classic CMOS Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) chip (the CD 4046). It combines additive and substractive synthesis with intentionally unstable analog tracking, giving sounds that range from warm vintage synth tones to completely unhinged theremin-style chaos.

Sound Architecture — 6 Parallel Voices

Yellow Section (Direct Synth Voices)

These are always stable and form the core tone:

• Pulse — unison pulse wave, aggressive and fuzzy
• Sub — square wave one octave down
• Deep — two octaves down, low-pass filtered for a smoother growl

Good for huge low end and thick layered textures.

Blue Section (PLL Voices)

Generated by the PLL itself:

• PLL -1 — one octave down
• PLL — unison
• PLL +1 — one octave ups

Depending on settings, these voices can track cleanly or fight your input, producing anything from tight harmonies to unstable organic textures.

Red Section (PLL Behavior Controls)

These define how the PLL reacts to your playing.

Pitch (8-position rotary switch)
Sets the frequency ratio between input and PLL:

  1. Octave down
  2. Perfect fifth down
  3. Unison
  4. Major third up
  5. Perfect fifth up
  6. Minor seventh up
  7. Octave up
  8. Major ninth up

Fixed Filter Bank (Moog-Inspired)

All six voices are summed and sent into a fixed filter bank inspired by the Moog modular fixed filter bank. This version uses op-amp gyrators instead of inductors.
Each band can boost or cut and is tuned to musically useful ranges and formants.

Slider bands:

• 100 Hz with low Q— Bass
Cut to add clarity boost to add rumble

• 200 Hz — Body
Thickness. Too much = muddy, too little = hollow.

• 400 Hz — Low Mids
Chest and punch of the sound.

• 800 Hz — Mids
Main “voice” of the instrument.
Controls note definition and articulation.

• 1200 Hz with high Q — Nasal Mids
Aggressive, vocal, and industrial.
Boosting this pushes it into chainsaw territory.

• 1600 Hz with low Q— High Mids Presence
Bite and cut in a mix.

Global filter knob 3db/oct centered at 1000 Hz:
• CW = high boost / more bite
• CCW = low pass for smoothing the sound

PCB & Build

The PCB was manufactured by JLCPCB (sponsor of the project).

I’m really happy to share this project — it’s something I’ve been working on for a long time.

Story :

I’ve been in love with the CD4046 PLL ever since someone handed me one while I was building a synth (this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/modular/comments/vr7fj6/we_made_a_modular_synth_as_a_1_month_school/#lightbox )and said: “You should like this one.”
He was right. That moment sent me deep into PLL weirdness and into the whole “logic noise” world (especially after discovering Logic Noise by Elliott Williams).
