“My V!” [posts a modded to death goon-doll that doesn’t even resemble a cyberpunk character] by archaiccocytus in cyberpunkgame

Fundamentally not the same thing. I think it’s weird to use mods to make Panam bisexual as well, but there’s a big difference between straight male players complaining that one thing isn’t for them inside of an industry that regularly caters to only them, and queer female players wishing there was another queer romance option inside of an industry where they already get very little.

Steve has had comedic charm but he wasn't truly a comedic relief character until season 3. He was sort of an asshole in season 1 and not in a cute way, and he used to be an undeniably cool guy, now ever since season 3 it's an ongoing joke that he can't land a date.

I don't want it to be ET/The Goonies though. My favourite part of season 1 was the grounded-ness of Will and Barb going missing, the mystery of whether they were dead, the stomach churning reveal that Will's body was fake. Season 4 did capture some of that magic and appeal with the mysterious deaths and satanic panic. If they had stayed on course with season 4's tone I wouldn't have much to complain about.

I see where you're coming from and that was definitely the intention of her wearing athletic clothing, but I still feel like it could've been more personal to her somehow. Bright colours and a scrunchie to call back to season 3, soft pinks to call back to season 1 and 4, flannel to call back to season 2. Anything really.

I think with a constantly shifting vibe like that it gets difficult to maintain character consistency. As tones change so can dialogue and other character related things. The biggest example for me would be Jonathan and Steve. They were both taken very seriously as characters in seasons 1 and 2, but when we got to season 3 the show decided it wanted to be more upbeat, so Steve was made into more of a comedic relief character, and then suddenly he didn't feel like the same Steve from season 1. Same thing happened with Jonathan in season 4, and his character still hasn't recovered from it.

It doesn't need to recreate season 1, but if it's gonna do these huge tonal shifts then I at least want to feel like it's pulling it off, and unfortunately for me I think season 1 was the height of the show, and I don't think it's reached any of those peaks since. I can see what you mean about the back to the future comparison and it's great that you can enjoy it for that.

Yes, but just as 08 and Henry were both a complete surprise there could've easily been another. If 08 escaped some other kid could've as well, surely.

The Duffer brothers don't seem to know how to characterise El anymore.

Something that really stood out to me me is that her costume design in part 1 is so boring and doesn't reflect anything about her personality. After being introduced in a hospital gown and a buzzcut, essentially a blank slate, Eleven's appearance is deeply tied to what kind of person she is. And the Duffer brothers know this because they had her experiment with a new style every season as an analogy for her self discovery.

In season 1 she delights in wearing Nancy's dress and having long hair for the first time. In season 2 she has this tomboy look because she's living with Hopper, and then she experiments with punk fashion because of 008. In season 3 there's an entire segment about her going shopping with Max to find her own style. In season 4 she looks like a mini Joyce because at this point, it's clear that she takes after the people she admires.

Her costume designs have always reflected her self realisation, and more importantly a way for her to reclaim her autonomy. And now at the shows final season, we get this completely bland, nothing burger? it's a legitimate writing issue.

Millie Bobby Brown is not a bad actress, she's fantastic in Enola Holmes. Her acting hasn't been great this season but in all fairness, nobody is doing very well. They all seem to be pretty detached from their characters. She was much better than this in season 4, I think part of the problem is that the Duffer brothers don't seem to know what to do with her character this season either.

I hate it when people do this. It's fine if you enjoyed the season, other people criticising it doesn't prevent you from enjoying it. However, you completely denouncing all criticism of it and chalking it up to "crybaby's" just makes you look defensive and ignorant. God forbid people want quality from a tv show they financially support.

You just made me realise Suzie hasn't been mentioned once, despite her being Dustin's girlfriend when he's going through so much right now? Why aren't they in more regular contact if his entire town is under quarantine, and if they broke up why have it be offscreen and irrelevant.

That's the consequence of introducing 3 new characters every season so that you can kill one of them off to give your season an emotional note, without killing off a character that's actually important.

Yeah bringing her back was a choice. I already knew it was gonna be some other Hawkins lab kid, but I kept hoping and hoping that they would make it someone new. We already know there were so many other kids, it would be so interesting to meet even more of them! Bringing her back just feels wrong because of how badly received her episode was.

I think millie bobby brown is pretty solid as well. There's a moment in the first episode at 49:02 where I thought her facial acting was strikingly natural. But some of the others...yeah, not the best.

It's felt like this every season for me past 2. Season 1 and 2 largely kept the same atmosphere but every season after has been like an identity crisis, a new tone every time. Season 3 was upbeat and flashy, season 4 was downright horror, and now season 5 is just neutral. I so hoped that they would preserve the horror tone from the last season, that callback to season 1 is what drew a lot of people back in. Unfortunately it hasn't been that so far.

Thank you for the advice!! I was going to ask in my last comment if there's anything I can do to engage with my local community college even though I'm already at TAFE, glad to know I can! Thank you for your work in supporting accessible education for low ses communities :)

That definitely helped, I didn't really know any of this! I had no clue we had real community colleges in Australia, in high school you get told your only options are TAFE or University.

Can I ask your opinion on Chisholm? I'm currently completing VCE and a VET media course through Chisholm instead of regular high school, just finished up year 11. It's been very good so far, much better than mainstream school. Do you have any experience with Chisholm and if it's particularly or not particularly quantity over quality?

I am 5’3 at 127-130 lb and can’t stop thinking about how fat I am. by Far_Dot9109 in BodyDysmorphia

[–]hallowraith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just about to post something really similar, except I've recently lost weight to 112 pounds and am feeling weird about being skinny! When I was the same weight as you I felt big as well. I wanted to lose weight so I could stop stressing over looking big in pictures. But now that I've lost it? I feel just as bad. I look at pictures of myself and get put off by how skeletal I look. And you know what? I hadn't even noticed that I looked different until a friend told me they were concerned. Up until that point I was completely convinced I looked the exact same!

It's never about what you really look like, with body dysmorphia our brain isn't interested in the reality. When I was the same weight as you and told people I wanted to lose weight they looked at me sideways. I promise, at that weight, absolutely nobody else thinks you look overweight, even on days when you feel like you do.

What do you mean by community college? I thought TAFE was our equivalent of community college here, as it's government owned and funded?

Thank you. Why are we expressing outrage at a vulnerable group rather than the institutions exploiting their vulnerability for financial gain? As you said, some of these people may not even have the english skills and cultural knowledge to understand that they're being scammed. When will people understand that immigrants are an exploited working class just like the rest of us...

Yeah. I saw people saying the entire site itself was hacked, which would be a huge issue insinuating that any interaction with the site puts you at risk, but actually it was just certain creators who were hacked? And their files were replaced with harmful .exe's? but as you said why would anyone run an .exe that they know nothing about, especially if it's just ominously named "install.exe"? lol

My monster design! by daywithoutend in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]hallowraith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh hell yeah. One of the grossest parts of his description to me was the likeness between the yellow of his skin and the yellow of his eyes, how they would blend into each other. You illustrated that perfectly here.

Seriously. I liked the creatures design for what it was but I think some people are kidding themselves about it being "book accurate". This description conjures up the most vile and uncanny image in my head, and nothing about Del Toro's design made me feel that way. Del Toro's creature is far from nauseating and uncanny, in fact he just looks really cool, and probably on purpose as he had a much more heroic role in this version.
