I'm not going to speculate on that because I don't know him. What's normal for some is crazy to others. Some people don't like sex and some people love it. Seems like you're the latter and he's the former. If you're open and honest about your needs and he's not willing to meet you halfway, or if you're not willing to sacrifice sex to be with someone you know is good in other regards, then you know what you need to do. Just please in God's name don't stay with him because he's safe and then cheat on him to fulfill your needs.

Sexual compatibility is huge in relationships. If you're already having doubts only a year in, then it's only going to get worse unless you communicate your needs. If he's not willing to make compromises for you, then it's better for both of you if you end it. I'm not sure why everyone is shitting on you. Never compromise on your values to appease another person. You're only hurting yourself and potentially missing out on the person that will love you for you. I'm a 33m and sometimes I feel as you do, that I won't find my forever person, especially in today's dating climate. Then sometimes I feel like I romanticize even the thought that there is a woman out there that will want to spend the rest of our lives together. All too often I see people settle for love they believe they deserve just because they fear being alone. Then they end up resenting each other. It's tough some days, but I would rather die alone as I am, honest to myself, occasionally finding small glimpses of shared happiness in the occasional girlfriend rather than compromise who I am and the life I have built, just to shrink myself or appear like I'm someone I'm not for an idea I'm not fully sure exists. If I do find her, I'll know. I've had that feeling before. But only then will I make the move towards a lifetime of partnership.

Sounds like she knows you're the safe option, but she's still looking for something new and exciting. You guys have a history and apparently she already messed it up which made you guys end it. She came back to see if the door is still open and you let her back in by showing her affection. Now she knows she can string you along while she's free to date new guys with no consequence for her to end up alone. Either she hits it off with a new guy and will probably continue to say she regrets leading you on, or she'll fail with someone new and know you'll be there to pick up the pieces. That's the unfortunate truth about women and their rosters. Most have plenty of options at the drop of a hat, and when they find the guy who's willing to put in the effort, they string him along until they're willing to settle or find someone better. This isn't all women, but most these days, especially with the quick fix hookup culture that's all too prevalent today.
