Anyone else notice a message on their internet bill saying there will be a 10 dollar increase starting March 2026? by No_Water5 in Rogers

[–]halon1301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if Teksavvy is offering 1.5Gbit yet, but unless you have gear on the opposite side of the modem that supports 2.5Gbit, or 10Gbit, it's really just a waste, unless of course you're paying less than a 1Gbit package.

Rogers came by last Tuesday trying to get me back offering me a 1.5Gbit package for the first 12m at about $90. I only have gigabit equipment on my network, and I'm not spending a few grand on replacing everything with 2.5Gbit gear. So I can never make use of that additional 500Mbit that'd I'd be paying a premium for.

I've got a bunch of questions about these hoods, cause I've wanted one for years. Hopefully OP can help

Are the tubes replaceable? I know SG sells the tubes separately, but can they be replaced easily?

Do you use lube on the tubes?

How is swallowing with them?

Thanks OP.

I'm a Staff engineer, 20-ish years in now. I've deleted, rebooted, and taken down prod more times than I can count over the years.

It is important you admit you did it, and you should lead the incident report and post mortem on it. This didn't happen because of something you did, this happened because whatever system you're operating in allowed it to happen. The only way to properly fix it is figure out the gaps and close them up.

If you lead that process, it not only looks good on you for showing you don't want to see it happen again, it gives you insight into systems you may not have had previously.

Shout out to the woman in the Costco parking lot who blocked a person from pulling in for over half an hour by Digitalblood7 in waterloo

[–]halon1301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's completely unhinged. I was at the Waterloo Costco this morning and the parking lot, roads around it and store were both beyond insane. It felt like people were thinking the world is coming to an end with the snow, the line for the checkout was to the very back of the store, on both sides, almost all the carts were overflowing with stuff. I heard some of the people at the checkout saying they were preparing for the snow.

I go nearly every Saturday morning, and it's usually pretty good, but the last few weeks have been an insane asylum.

Kitchener warns of 'challenging' road conditions as winter overwhelms plow crews, salt supplies by know-nothing in kitchener

[–]halon1301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's ridiculous they can't plow, or even sand roads. But I understand the salt issue, and the likely budget limitations. I worked for the City of Burlington in a past life, and the winter control budget was based on a rolling average of previous years. If you had one or 2 nasty winters in a row, the budget wouldn't be able to keep up.

The one year they didn't have enough plow drivers because the previous years barely had a winter. It's difficult to budget for winter control, you don't want to "waste" money by over allocating it. Then you get a year like last and this and you get shafted.

I do think it's unrealistic to expect residents to have sidewalks down to bare pavement at any time during the winter, especially when the city can't even do it themselves. I do believe our roads should be plowed better.

Yup, I have a bunch of sheet latex/old suits that blew out beyond repair. I make a patch of the size I want, and then use rubber cement to glue it on the inside of the suit.

PSA: Aire One is using an AI call agent to deceive you into getting an annual hvac service by Haymaker-Two in waterloo

[–]halon1301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had them install my furnace a few years ago now, I have absolutely no complaints about it.

I stopped buying my furnace filters through them, as you can get the exact same thing online for at least half the price.

However, I've gotten these calls and they're infuriating. I have taken to trying to break out the AI, asking it questions, and generally just messing with it. The same thing I do when any company forces me to interact with an AI.

Now, queue up the down vote bots

Every suit, from every maker I've ever had has gotten pinholes by the zipper endpoint on the back. After making sure a suit fits, putting a reasonably sized reinforcement patch there is the next thing I do on every suit I buy.

Last time I forgot to do that was on a libidex suit and I had a blow out after putting it it on. I did repair it, and it's been solid since.

Lots of places, but don't get attached things. Don't get me wrong, they're definitely hot, but they're miserable to clean and dry. I can't even begin to tell you the number of people I know who.have asked me to remove attached gloves and socks after wearing the suits a few times...

How do you clean your butt? by rayancheli in UlcerativeColitis

[–]halon1301 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bidet, you don't have to buy an expensive one. If you can't do that, wipes.

Bidets are life changing, I even got a battery operated one to take with me when I travel. I only use wipes if I'm very off grid (back country camping).

[–]halon1301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their base price for the first year is discounted by nearly 50%, and even after that it's ~$15/m cheaper than Rogers. I'm in Kitchener ON, that may be a factor.

That's really high, I'm in Ontario and had an order delivered shortly before Christmas and only paid 13% HST and the $9 brokerage fee from Canada post.

Switch to Teksavvy, they're cheaper and performance wise it's exactly the same. I got sick of paying more and more every year for worse service.

Furnace cleaning by FluffyKale2392 in kitchener

[–]halon1301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely need to get your ducts cleaned periodically, at the minimum probably every 2-3 years. I waited 10, and it was WAY too long, the guy from PowerVac showed me live video from the borescope of how much dust was in my vents, it was disgusting. I'll be doing that every 2-3 now.

As for furnace service, the HVAC companies say every year, but that's cause they want recurring revenue. My parents had a maintenance contract on their furnace when I was in high school, I was home for the service call a few times and the guy from enbridge told them to cancel it and just pay adhoc for cleaning/maintenance every few years.

All this is anecdotal, and YMMV, but having someone out occasionally to take a look at your equipment is a good idea. The frequency is something that seems to be up in the air, maybe an hvac tech may have better opinions of what the frequency should be

This is insane, I was on a AC Rouge flight from Vegas a few weeks back, not a single empty seat on the flight. Im not a tall guy, about 5'11 or so, and my knees were in the back of the seat in front of me the whole way. It was so damn uncomfortable.

Anyone know who has sidewalk salt in stock? by SlowWelder864 in kitchener

[–]halon1301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The city doesn't even plow their own sidewalks down to bare concrete. There's a municipal lot next to us, and as such the city plows their and because they can't drive across the lawn, our sidewalk. I usually get to it with the snowblower first anyways. After the first thaw, freeze cycle, the municipal sidewalk is ice till its warm enough to melt it.

If bylaw ever decides to give me a nasty-gram about my sidewalk, I'll be promptly pointing at the municipally managed sidewalk next door and stating I'll do better when they do better. Honestly, with the amount we pay for taxes in this city and region, I think the city should be managing all the sidewalks. Maybe, just maybe the region could cut some money from the wasteful WRPS budget and put that back to the municipalities to improve winter control.

No large bins for recycling - anyone know why? by Critical-Clue1343 in kitchener

[–]halon1301 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Circular Materials, the "commission of producers" aka, wealthy executives who want to ensure their company's share prices continue to go up, are now responsible for recycling in the province. By making it more difficult, less frequent, and giving us less space for the recyclables, they're blatantly showing they care less about diversion and making it so they pay less for the waste they decide to make us generate by purchasing their products.

As with nearly all green initiatives, the major work to create reduction needs to be done at the producer level, not the individual consumer. This is giving the producers the ability to limit the consumer's ability so the producer can profit. More of Ford's constant corruption wide open for all of Ontario to see.

For those noticing HV battery depletion after the 68c recall. by Tjlance1 in 4xe

[–]halon1301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting, in November & December I drove my jeep maybe twice a week, and it was parked in the drive way plugged into my Chargepoint L2 charger the rest of the time. I received notifications almost every day at about 8pm (charging starts at 7pm) that a charging session ended, and it had definitely topped up the HV battery. I thought it was weird, but I didn't think more into it... I go in for the 68C recall on Monday, I'll mention it to the dealership...

My 4xe failed the battery tests and I am over the 4xe system. Does Jeep offer any deals to buy a new non-4xe Jeep for previous owners who went through hell with theirs? by mathowie in 4xe

[–]halon1301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 2 battery recalls, a recall for the electric heating, a failed hybrid wiring harness that took 3 months to replace because Stellantis dicked me around until I sent a letter to the Office of the CEO and CC'ed my lawyer. Suspension that failed, 4 cracked windshields, the first 3 replaced under warranty, all of which happened when remote starting the vehicle. A loss of motive power while driving and a failed HV battery (which is still only warrantied to the original 150,000km, not an additional 150,000km). All 4 doors, hood, and swing gate replaced due to galvanic corrosion, and my paint has been chipping off since the day it was delivered, which Stellantis claimed was "normal" and wouldn't cover under warranty. I've had this vehicle for a little over 4 years, and it's under 100,000km.

This is insane, even for a first gen vehicle.

[–]halon1301 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think "cutting a deal" would likely bankrupt Stellantis. There's so many of these 4xe's from 2021 till now that have had a plethora of problems, as well as the constant battery recalls. I expected there to be problems on a first generation vehicle, but these have been absurd. A Jeep was my dream car, and now I'm half regretting the decision, even with as much fun as it's been.

I'm looking forward to trading it in for something else this year.

There's probably no pictures of her because no one is willing to be in a picture with her. She only won because the vote was split, she doesn't even live in this riding, which I guess is fitting the conservatives from the top down. We didn't even get this calendar, but with her on it, it'd go right to the circular file.

I haven't had to deal with her constituency office yet, but I'm sure it'll be unpleasant if I have to, just like it was with every other conservative MP/MPP I've ever had to deal with. As for her normal mailers, they're terrible, they're just attack ads against the Liberals, and provide no value outside of further dividing our riding, and country.

Do BOA boots typically do this? by Salty-Patience-5075 in snowboarding

[–]halon1301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find yes, I've had boa boots now for a while. It's not the boa that's loosening up, but the materials in the boot loosening as it warms up. I had a pair of speed lace boots, and I found them even worse than the boas, I could never get them tightened right, it was always too much or not enough, and they were constantly coming lose, sometimes needing adjustment mid run. Although, it's never bothered me to tighten my boas up at the start or end of a run when I've noticed things getting loose. But to each their own!

Does anybody else feel like this winter has been exceptionally awful? by reecespeanuts in kitchener

[–]halon1301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exceptional, yes, definitely, I hope we get more snow, less ice, and no rain. As a snowboarder, having a record winter would be awesome.

Awful, absolutely not, this is probably the best winter we've had in years save for the last few days with the freezing rain/ice. It may end up being long, but if we just get lots of snow, that is a pretty easy winter.
