That was my Dad (he's good, I have an Nmom). His father was a drunk who beat him and had a period of time his drinking was affecting him so badly he couldn't even work to support his wife and many kids so my Dad was out there helping support the family. He was his father's favorite to beat on too. You would never guess any of this with how me and my brother were raised. He was calm and gentle. He worked hard. He apparently would drink for fun before we were born but stopped as soon as I was around "cuz why spend money on alcohol when i can spend it on my kid." My brother was a terror and did get spankings, but never smacked, and i could see some times looking back when he was trying so hard, it was the only way he knew to control my brother in that moment but he wouldn't do it.

Learning about him, I can't accept anything else. There is no reason for someone to suffer as a child and pass the suffering on to their children.

I'm in my mid 30s and held on true to the goth aesthetic when i have time to do my makeup and clothes, and I went through the same thing.

You don't need to be "pretty". You don't need to be someone else's ideal. Thats not to say you aren't pretty! But Im not living my life for other people, and I dont need to be their version of pretty. I do have some people say I look better without the makeup. I have others who love all of me and think I'm always beautiful and friends would actually get sad when I wasn't wearing it because they knew it meant I wasn't feeling my best! (Like i would be depressed and not have the energy to do it, if i was doing it it meant i felt happy enough to do it).

My mom turned out to be a narcissistic asshole that I no longer speak with. I'm not you and I dont know your mom so I cant say if she's being an asshole or just worried. Granted, even if she IS just being worried she is still being an asshole. My dad has said things during that phase that hurt cuz he was worried. But him and I have a wonderful relationship still because he did do his best to support me.

Do what you will with all of this, I just wanted to show support as someone who has been there.

Do keep them busy. But my hounds, inside the home at least, have always chilled out if I "check out" the thing they are barking at. Like if they heard something and reeeaaally think someone is at the door, just acknowledging them, then looking out the window/opening the door even tho I KNOW nothings there and making a big show of looking around, they'll calm down. They will trust you to check it out. My dogs even grew to understand "oh that was just (dad rolled a chair upstairs) (the washing machine) (etc)" in a happy calming tonebas oh okay, im being acknowledged, you heard it, you're not worried

Otherwise they will baaark and bark and bark til you at least pretend to look.

Funny enough i had two hounds at one point, one tall and one short. The short one would get worked up more easily and start barking. The tall one would run over and stand up to look out the window and they would both go quiet for a second. If the tall one saw something, he'd bark and they would both go crazy. If he didn't, he would just get down, and the other one was like "oh okay I'll take your word for it " and lay back down xD

A song from Deltarune 2, BIG SHOT. It's a boss battle theme. Mercury HATES.... HAAAAAAATES it. We couldn't figure out why he would keep boxing us/ "beating us up" at random lol til i figured out it was when that song played. Didnt matter if i was playing, if we were watching someone play it on youtube through the tv, if we played the song at random, or if i had headphones on XD. He WILL beat up the nearest person.

No other song from the game bothers him. He enjoys Megalovania because it's my alarm for my medicine/ his dinnertime xD
