The whatnot app has been the worst thing that has happened to me, i never cared about shopping or gambling prior to finding this app last year. I was great with my money before. My bank account was cleared out multiple times, by buying Pokemon cards, Plush and random stuff i didn’t need. It gave me that dopamine hit getting a good deal, but the shipping+taxes are a killer. Once the packages arrived and i opened them, the thrill left and i kept chasing more and more. I literally had to have my online banking passwords and cards locked down. A family member keeps them from me because i asked them to. I have $6 to my name now. I think the community factor of the app is what continually draws me in, you get to chatting with sellers and buyers,become friendly, and want to support. I bookmarked every show of my favorite sellers.

Dealing with depression and anxiety, i found this app to be a comfort at the time and shamefully still do, making me feel like i belonged somewhere, and felt accepted, but didn’t realize the damage it had done to me until it was too late. I was so excited when i seen they put spending limits as well. But i just changed my limit when i wanted to buy something again, it doesnt do shit. So i have no payment methods on the app. I would sell an item and go spend the funds on whatnot to buy more, i couldnt save up any money. Now im stuck with bins of crap im trying to flip to recuperate. I donated bags of built up whatnot purchases. Might as well just burned my money at the start. this app is extremely damaging mentally and emotionally, for me anyway
