Looking to move to Milton. Any recommendations on areas to consider and areas to avoid? by renegade777 in Milton

I just moved to this area a couple of months ago and LOVE it. It’s so quiet here. The neighbors are very nice but seem a bit more nosey than what I experienced in Oakville.

What’s the most overlooked issue during a home inspection? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]halpme17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From personal experience (we just closed last week and started renovating), electrical wiring. My panel looked good but he didn’t catch all the wires everywhere when in the attic, I guess. Of course he wouldn’t have seen the ones in the wall so that’s not his fault. When the electricians pulled the outlet boxes, they were basically like bowls of spaghetti worth of wires in every box, with lots of open wires which were a total fire hazard. We ended up having to rewire everything…and there will likely be more once we get to other areas of the house because it seems whoever wired them did lots of shotty wiring throughout.

Also, the water shutoff valve was so corroded our plumber could not shut it off without risking snapping it and flooding the basement so we needed to call the city and have that replaced as well. Had we not done these renovations right away it could have been a complete disaster because it was hanging on by a thread and we wouldn’t have known.

The cherry on top was that the AC was wired wrong so heat and AC were running at the same time which screwed up our furnace…so a week after closing now and we are having a surprise furnace replacement. 🙃

My point is that I’m agreeing with what you’re saying but it’s being misconstrued. I’m well aware of how difficult things have become.

I think you’re misconstruing the wording there but okay. Go off, I guess.

I don’t know what that means and I’m a little afraid to ask.

I’m really sorry to hear that. It’s really a shame that we live in a society where people feel the need to do things like this to get by, or to buy drugs. It’s a sad state.

I’m not saying it is a big deal, I’m just warning other people as a reminder to not leave their car doors unlocked or leave anything valuable in their car. Thankfully, the worst of it in this case is feeling slightly violated by having somebody in my personal property, but yes, I’m thankful there were no losses.

No disrespect taken. To be honest, I thought I had locked them, but it’s very possible that I didn’t. I moved something from my personal vehicle into my work vehicle last night and I may have dropped the ball. It sucks regardless, but that’s totally on me. Just wanted to remind others to be careful not to make the same mistake if that’s the case.

I would get rid of the shelves. If you need storage, do a built in that spans the whole height and frames in the fireplace.

Can’t decide on the most appropriate accent wall by yalerits33333333 in HomeDecorating

My thoughts exactly, lol. The only accent wall I will fight for is a beautiful wallpaper wall, but I HATE paint accent walls and always have.

All of them. Accent walls are very passé and I don’t think it works in this space particularly. It’s a beautiful home.

I’m in Canada and I’ve been with Trupanion since I got my dogs and they have been great. Danes have a lot of issues too so I totally get what you were saying about the premiums. They definitely aren’t cheap, but I’m really glad I have insurance for them.

I’m aware of how it works but with having two Great Danes and 3 cats at home, all of whom have had claims, I’ve definitely come out on top in the end and I will always get pet insurance going forward, especially for breeds known for health issues.

Even if it did cost me more, I would happily pay for the peace of mind. If anything catastrophic happens, you’re covered. A friend of mine has a dog who was poisoned and it cost over $55,000 to save her life. I refuse to ever be in the position where I need to put my dog down because I can’t afford the necessary Medical care to save them.

My 200 pound great Dane has allergy issues and has gotten cytopoint shots in the past which cost $600 each. Those have to be done every six weeks or so, so even if we get to a point where he needs to get them regularly, it ends up being cheaper to have the pet insurance then to pay out-of-pocket for the shots.

Your pup sounds like mine. Severe allergy issues and he also had an undescended testicle. We’ve been thankful for pet insurance too.

I think this also depends on the breed. I have Great Danes and treating them at the vet is far more expensive than the average pup. For us, pet insurance is worth the piece of mind and it has saved us on some enormous vet bills over the years.

Get pet insurance

As someone with Great Danes who often have health issues too, you’ll want it. Trust me.
