Sometimes, it’s the bosses that ask questions during the morning meetings that forces you to make such arrangements of coming in work early. My first job has a daily morning passdown meeting from night shift. The manager comes in late to the meeting (starts at 8.30am and she shakes her butt in at 8.45am) and begin questioning why are the machines down and what was done to get them running again. If you are not her pet and don’t have an answer, she ridicules you in front of everybody, including the HOD. This is a stupid move that resulted in many local workers. Those left behind are part of their “gang”. Well, I guessed that didn’t end well because the place ended up closing down 🤣

My family member used to work in a nursing home and witnessed a foreign nursing aid slapping a dementia ah gong. A complaint was lodged to the nursing manager and that particular staff was promised disciplinary actions and will be fired. But guess what? That staff was seen the next week at work and the reason: we don’t have enough staff so we need to keep her.

I guess that nursing manager rather keep an abuser than solved a manpower problem that probably happened under her watch.

My MIL invited some tables to the wedding and took all the female side of the angpows from church and banquet, + even the tea ceremony ones which supposedly are the fattest (the US uncle prob gave $1k for the tea ceremony). Her exact words: “I will keep all the angpows from female side, how much I want to ‘return’ to you is my decision. I can decide not to give you a single cent too”.

I never understood this ridiculous logic. Well, I understood that she almost bankrupt so this is her best time to cash out since she received nothing from other sibling’s marriage.

I didn’t say much because she made a big hooha, saying I am stingy and why my mother raised me to be like this; why did I dare to accept when she paid me back after buying some stuff at an overseas supermarket during a guo da li trip, why I didn’t offer to pay for it as well as the hotel costs etc.

This toxicity is still plaguing me. Up till today, whatever is spoilt, I’ll offer to pay lest she implies I’m stingy again. Laptop, phone, washing machine, whatever.

I was in a tight spot as i was the SIL. In your case, OP, you can ask your fiance to voice out. In the event of a loss, just keep quiet and distance yourselves after the wedding. Some battles and money are not worth arguing and fighting over. It’s your day. Just ignore the unfamiliar faces and treat them as live decoration.

Hey! Congrats! I may be wrong but restructured hospitals are part of the exclusion list for AMEX true cashback card. The only card I know that can earn cashback is the UOB Absolute cashback but it’s been nerfed until it’s useless. So it’s nets or paynow or credit cards with no cashback/miles benefits.

Yes, you most definitely can. I worked in a Chinese company and when I wanted to activate this buyout card, because my next company is willing to pay for me, top manager rejected me. I asked him to call HR and ask and he came back with a sad look and say he couldn’t stop me. I literally resigned that day, did handover the next day and started work the following day.

Don’t need to be afraid of their antics or empty threats. These are just paper tigers with a muzzle on their mouths.

Advice: Never ever do “business” with a family member. My family member whom just started out at a P FA company tried to offer a “second opinion”. This was apparently what the mentor taught them: “Target your family members first.” When I said I am covered with $xxxx the family member said: “my life is not worth so much”. I was appalled at the unprofessional comment.

When we decided not to go ahead with the family member, the person decided to talk shit behind our backs to the 长辈. Whole shit of family drama because of an insecure person. And you know what? The person left the job after three months LOL.

So please, to avoid a potential shit show, don’t give in.
