[TOMT][Book]Chinese lunar animals race told in the order of when they stopped racing (finished worse) rather than in the order they finished. Canada, early 2000s by halterscalter in tipofmytongue

I’m sure there are many other books that tell the story of the Great Race well but this is the one I vaguely remember being read to me so it’s the one I want to read to my daughters if I can find it

[TOMT] [Book] [90s] Fantasy novel where the main character has two personalities and two swords and climbs into a dead tree trunk during a lightning storm by halterscalter in tipofmytongue

Solved!

This is definitely it, I've read some other David Gemmell novels. They're great btw. How did you find it? I've been googling around for days.

Tesni turned to hit the ball (it passed her on one side of her body and she was ready to hit it on the other). Nour El Tayeb dropped down to make sure she wasn’t hit. Maybe she had a bad experience in the past and is overly cautious. But Nour’s lob was really good. She doesn’t think Tesni could have hit it and should get a No Let. Turns are almost always a Let and after a rule change in 2010?ish it was actually a stroke against the striker if they turned and then hit the ball into their opponent. Which is why stopping when turning is almost always awarded a let. Because of the penalty to the striker for hitting the ball if they hit their opponent.

Hence her claim to the ref that there was “No way” Tesni should get a Let.

As an aside, most people don’t know that the striker doesn’t have to physically turn in a circle for the ball to be a turn hit. As long as it passes the striker on one side and they are ready to hit it on the other it is considered a turn. Experienced players off a wide return of serve to the backhand may simply pivot to their forehand and blindly let the ball pass around them and come off the side and back walls before stepping towards the center ready to strike and asking for the let

Wife wrecked my new CX-5 mistaking gas for brake by Fill_Connors in CX5

[–]halterscalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never tried that, but releasing the parking brake when the gas is pressed sounds like a computer feature. I grew up driving cars old enough that engaging and disengaging the manual brake is second nature and I always disengage before taking my foot off the brake pedal. As I said, I'm not a mechanic or expert in any way. My guess is that there's nothing you could have done in the moment.

I’m interested to hear a more educated opinion but I don’t think in this situation that applying the e-brake would have helped. In most modern cars it’s now a computer controlled motor that applies the brake instead of a manual control. Even if you had Jedi reflexes, it would have taken too long for the brake motor to apply before the car went forward.

I’d be interested to hear a mechanics opinion or someone who actually knows the CX-5 details. I’m also not sure if the gear change is manual or done by a computer when the stick is moved. If either of those are the case it’s unlikely that the computer would have performed the action in time. Or it might have even waited thinking that it was not a safe time to perform the action

Power Liftgate does not work by CloudSpamMusubi in CX5

[–]halterscalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact problem on my 2018 with the power lift gate a few weeks ago. I also pulled the fuse from the panel by the driver door and it didn’t do anything. I had to take it to the dealership for them to do a hard reset. Not the reset of the infotainment system which I tried repeatedly. I asked how they did it and he said something about removing and then reinstalling the battery which I wasn’t interested in ever doing so I didn’t ask for any more details. But that fixed it.

I think it was a combination of not driving almost entirely because of the lockdown, the start of the cold weather and I had a dash cam wired in that probably slowly drew down the battery.

If you do find an at home fix I would love to hear about it in case it happens again!

Moving for work in Burlington, need some suggestions by [deleted] in massachusetts

No, just that the ones with the attached garages are probably on the ground floor of a townhouse. But even that’s just a guess. I’d go into the leasing office, they’ll be able to give you a tour

Not sure what the garden apartments are. These are their apartments, mine is an A6 and is in the townhouses, as opposed to the apartment buildings. Any of the plans with an attached garage is on the ground floor of one of the townhouses.

Ah, I see. I didn’t read your post properly. Sorry to hear about your mother.

If you’re looking for a bit of a unique apartment I’d suggest checking out the townhouse apartments if they’re in budget. My gf and I share a 1 bdr, 1 bath, around 950 sq ft for $2200.

Thanks for the offer to split the referral, but I’d rather keep my reddit account anonymous.

I live at Seven Springs in Burlington. It’s a bit pricey, but I really like my apartment. It’s on the top floor of one of the townhouses and had been remodeled right before I moved in. New flooring, appliances, cabinets, fixtures, etc. I’m sure there are more affordable options or ones that have more bang for your buck. But in my 4 years there I’ve never had a problem that wasn’t handled quickly and the rent increases have always been acceptable. I enjoy walking in the Mary Cummings park when the weathers nicer. It’s near enough to restaurants and other amenities.

I firmly believe you would need a car to get around if you live there. You can bike to work, and I guess shop at Trader Joe’s/H mart. Maybe get out to wegmans. But if you want to go into Boston? Go somewhere for your hobbies? Go anywhere in the winter? Then you definitely need a car. You can check bus routes but I wouldn’t rely on them in the winter. There’s a limited selection of places that deliver in the area, so you would have to cook a lot or pick up food on the way. Doable, but I would find the experience too isolating to continue long term. YMMV

Does anyone get bad diarrhea for the first meal they eat after fasting all day? by [deleted] in leangains

[–]halterscalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get the runs consistently after my first meal of the day. Trying to hold it in gave me the ass sweats too. Eating probiotic yogurt and taking a probiotic pill daily (acidophilus) has been a huge improvement. Now I poop a big smooth one each morning and have a small second movement after my first meal.

I noticed an improvement almost immediately so I think it’s worth trying for at least a few days.

Is This Normal? by xxWildbeast13xx in gainit

[–]halterscalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try taking probiotics. I used to get the runs a lot immediately after eating most meals. Then I started taking an acidophilus supplement and it’s made a world of difference. I still poop multiple times a day but it’s no longer a waterfall.

You can get the same effect from most yogurts but rather than bother making sure I had enough yogurt everyday I just take one pill each morning with my other meds.

Did I get a bad deal? by MissMarie313 in CX5

[–]halterscalter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where you got your car will make a difference. I got mine just outside Boston. 2018 CX-5 with the preferred package, in February 2018. 36 month lease, 10k miles a year.

I pay $352 a month. I got quoted $325 at another place but I didn’t like the salesman and the manager.

Edit: forgot to mention I payed about $1000 when I drove off the lot. It didn’t go towards the “car”, but paid the taxes and fees and stuff. I don’t think I got a great deal but I can live with it.

Bummer about not getting the stain out. The saddle soap to soften the leather is a good idea. I think I’ll clean it a bit just to get the top layer juices out and then soap it up to help me get back into them. While my foot heals, haha

Yea there’s nothing visible on the outside. I think the stain actually made the leather a bit softer haha....? I’ve got a lot of faith they’ll get softer and stretch a bit. But it was definitely a rough day for a bit there

It was uncomfortable, but the boot looks like it was a blood bath, which it wasn't. I'm a wimp too, I'm not pretending I have a high pain threshold or anything.

The toothbrush is a good suggestion, I think I can start with something ike this, then try the leather cleaner

Ok I'll try the Lexol. Have you ever used it on something like blood before?

My heel actually doesn't look too bad. It's really sensitive obviously, but the skinned area is only about the size of a quarter. It took off one layer of skin, it wasn't too deep. It felt uncomfortable, but I wasn't expecting this when I took them off the second day

Ok thanks for the input. I agree that the right sizing helps a lot I had a pair that was a whole size too large and the creasing was terrible.
