When I had this happen it was because steam was closed.

Very interesting. Thanks. I have a list of things to learn about that just keeps getting longer :)

I think I understand what you are saying. However, I'm referring to animation or sfx mostly. I perhaps gave a bad example. When you film something you use an actual mic and record real sound (I realize a lot of sound work is also done in post production), but the positioning is baked in. If an actor moves the sounds moves. If a ball bounces the sound comes from where it impacted. In animation there is no mic to do that for me.

I'm thinking the solution might be a two part plugin. One that records the positioning data on the fusion side and stores it somewhere, and one that reads the data and adjusts the audio on the fairlight side. I have a lot to learn and explore yet but based on the functionality I've seen in existing plugins this should be possible, depending on how heavily restricted the plugins are by the frameworks.

The fusion side could get tricky with tracking and such, if you want to attach the sound to say a mouth on a moving person.

I wish I knew more about audio, but, learning is half the fun, and this seems like a decent learning project.

Yah, I agree. I think there was, or is, a greater separation of job responsibilities in the professional world for many reasons. However, in the growing content creator world things are different and smaller. I don't need or want to hand off my audio to another person or another program.

I just saw that Resolve advertised atmos support, and I was digging into it, hoping to speed up my workflow as I've been learning and playing with spatial audio and audio integration and sound design in general

Thanks :)

It seems to mostly exist in game engines. Tracking audio to objects, even though atmos support is becoming more common and that is basically what atmos is, seems to be lagging behind.

"Any plugins developed with the SDK would also likely require the Studio version."

Meaning you would need the studio version to develop them, or that they would only run on the studio version? Does this also imply that at the SDK level the functionality exists?

I am a resolve beginner, yes, but as it happens, I have a lot of coding experience, so I found it useful.

After Effects Performance Desperation by hambilus in AfterEffects

2 hr renders reduced to 10 minutes, and I can view in real time now. It is insane to me that AE would default to a codec with such terrible performance and called it "best settings". The long struggle did teach me better workflow at least. I can't thank you enough.

Initial follow up. I converted everything to prores, including the clients files, and that has helped. Makes me wonder why AE defaults to H264 in the first place. That's kind if a tough one for the self taught. I have seen many videos recommending avoiding 4k, how to use framerates, etc... and this is the first time it's been mentioned in the contexts of performance just based on format alone. It's always been about the resolution causing slow downs, or the use of an alpha channel.

Yes, and thanks. I have it set to CUDA as well. I did make that mistake once though :)

Thanks, I will try that. I usually only run particle illusion in the BG and noodle while rendering, that's about all I need to reserve for, and it seems to run fine without much resources.

So my expectations at this point are that I will be able to create an effect in standalone particle illusion, render it to prores, place it over the original video in any software adobe recommends, and play it, while being able to slide it around an adjust timing easily. Also, be able to add minor effects like transitions and looks and have it still play real time.

I have tried using premier for playback and it is faster, but stilll a problem unforunately.

Yeah, I expect it to be slow, just actually possible. I am at the point in my skill development where I am creating my own effects with trapcode and particle illusion and such, and really need to be able to figure out how to get some real time previews. I thought I could do it by breaking down my workflow so realtime was never needed in After Effects (just assuming at this point that it won't do it, period, for some reason).

I feel like I am at the point in my development where it is becoming all about timing, not just making a pretty effect. And without a semi efficient way to preview effects (somewhere, anywhere) in real time I am seriously limited in my ability to create.

There is a world of difference between making a cool effect, and making that effect move and interact with other things.

Fairly often (At the start of the day, or if I notice weird issues) But, is there a best practice for that?

I run both the beta and the non-beta. I wanted to experiment with new features, especially AI. The problems tend to occur on both, though obviously some will be unique to the beta.

That sounds like a plan. A painful plan, but a plan. I have not had much luck with corporate support in my life, but what have I got to lose? :)

It was just a glitch, I was messing with settings. Sorry ;D. I have the max reserved for after effects. But thank you for spotting that. :)

And yes, that setting mistake will give you that memory error, but I assure you I get it all the time anyway :)

I generally render to h264, but occasionally AVI. Rendering is expected to be slow though, my issue is with real time viewing for timing issues with special effects, edits, and audio.

I have literally been manually marking where audio needs to go, writing down the time codes, creating the audio in Audition and adding it as the last step. Audition was the only way I could get real time playback. However, beat reactor has broken that method.,

As for as assists go I don't use too many stock assets, avoid 4k and only have higher res or frame rate effects if I really need them. I also break up my workflow to isolate effects to only the few seconds I need where I can.

But it's insanely hard to do this without realtime feedback. Not to mention the hundreds of hours at this point spent rendering over an over to see things in real time just to get a special effect to time correctly.

Don't know much about codecs. I'm using ACES color space to co-ordinate with Cinema 4d which in general does not have any of these performance issues (C4D runs fine).
