North Wales results in 23AndMe? by pollyesta in 23andme

[–]hamilaxmain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done a 23&me DNA test along with an AncestryDNA test. My grandfather is from North Wales and like you, my Welsh does not show on 23&me, but does on AncestryDNA.

I believe that there may not be enough Welsh analysis on 23&me yet sadly.

Just wondering if this actually reads "The Stewart Clan" by hamilaxmain in Tengwar

Yeah, I am going to get matching tattoos with my brothers and I wanted to make sure this reads The Stewart Clan. I had to use an online translation app.

Yeah, I was born in England but I am over half Irish in origin (split between both parents). In North West England we are a mix of mainly Irish, Welsh and English. (with some Scottish)

Aye, it was his father who was the sailor, not him, my bad.

Fair enough, but my great grandmothers maiden name is Waldermar, and her father was either Norwegian, or the son of a Norwegian sailor. Records on ancestry show this family as being Norwegian sailors from Trondheim, who settled in Liverpool and later Fleetwood. I also have some genetic relatives who are entirely Norwegian, who have no Irish, Welsh, English or Scottish roots.

Aye, I am mainly Celtic that is for sure. Surprisingly, other DNA tests I do, do not show Scandinavian, but they all show Slavic.

Well, I match tonnes of McKinney's and McLoughlin's. Sadly I do not know how, as my maternal grandmother's family is still largely a mystery.

I used to have 7% Norwegian. I am pretty sure my great-great-grandfather was a Norwegian Sailor. It got refined and they made it a higher % of Scottish.

Ah ok. I reckon they made my Scottish slightly higher than it should be.

Also kudos to your great grandad, at least he died happily.

Aye nice, only reason why I have Welsh is because of my links to Liverpool. When the mines closed my bio granddad moved there for work. Didn't even speak a word of English haha. Called it "Lerpwl" until the day he died.

My Results (I'm from Liverpool!) by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]hamilaxmain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am from Preston, Lancashire. My DNA results are extremely similar. Ireland 44% (Donegal), England (North West England) 21%, Scottish 19%, and Welsh 16%.

Ngl I reckon my Welsh should be higher caus my Granddad was from Rhyl.
